Boy Walking Shoes

My little boy is about to start walking and I have never made him wear shoes, because he refused to keep them on his feet!! My mother says I should take him to a Stride Rite store to get his feet measured and get him a good pair of walking shoes. Whats the difference in shoes and Walking shoes? And do people still get walking shoes for their infants?

Little ones do not need shoes when they begin to walk. If you need shoes for outdoors, simple is better, a $10 pair from walmart will do just fine! Baby's grow so fast as you know, they do not know the difference between Nike's and cheaper shoes... I say go with a simple, easy to put on pair to protect his feet from being hurt outdoors and leave them off inside!

My little boy is learning to walk, and I want to know the best shoes for him to wear. I let him be barefoot at home, but don't want him barefoot in public, its so dirty and he could step on something. I've been having him wear soft soled shoes, but its getting to the point where it rains a lot where I live, and the shoes soak through. What are some good brands?

Another vote for Stride Rite, here.

You can buy a pair of thicker soled shoes for rainy days when the ground is wet, but try not to use them very much, if possible. The other answerer was correct: feeling the ground against their natural soles is the best.

Also, don't worry so much about the shoes getting damp or dirty. If there's a flexible sole on the bottom or he's wearing booties to prevent rocks and things from cutting his feet, and you change his booties once he's back in the stroller so he's not riding around wet, it's not a big deal. Unless there's a cut on his foot, germs don't get absorbed by the skin there. We get sick from germs in our mouths and noses. Kids get dirty!

At the horse I saw a boy riding a horse through the mud and a girl walking beside him through the mud. what were they trying to do? were they sneaking off. The boy was 18 and he was riding the horse and the girl was also 18, she was walking beside him through the mud. I know them both, just not sure what they were doing, and the girl did not have any shoes on, the boy had on sandals but he was on a horse, so why didn't the girl wear the sandals. anyway what do yall think?
