My daughter is 10 months and is starting to walk. I am wondering what kinda of shoes that would be good for her to learn to walk with approprite traction and being able to feel the ground through the shoes and all that jazz. What kinds did you try? i have looked at striderite, robeeze and those kinds of shoes. what else is good?
at home she wears her bare feet but for going out we need something that is durable enough to walk on hard ground, but nice enough for her to like shoes.
The best shoes I've found is from Stride Rite. The sole is very soft, unlike any other shoes you'll find. They are pricey though, but well worth it. They have shoes for different levels, crawlers, cruisers...etc.

Have them check out http://www.freecycle.org/ so they can find a local group to post a request up in. They could also go to Goodwill for cheap things, or contact locals churches or shelters to see if they offer free clothing.

If you're buying online, Google for the manufacturer's size charts so you can make sure you're buying the right size. I've found that the age ranges on shoes correlate even less to the child's actual age than clothing. Ex My 11 month is wears 0-6 month Pediapeds and still has room to grow.

I know for a fact some friends are buying some brand name shoes for my baby girl for Christmas. As she is only 4 months and obviously not walking or crawling, I'm not sure if they are for novelty or if she is actually supposed to wear them.
Will I look silly for putting shoes on her or do most babies wear 'baby shoes?'

Hard sole shoes are not meant to be worn before a baby can walk as it can damage their foot growth/development.
I would keep them as a keepsake only, she can wear the soft slipper type baby shoes, they are nice and cosy and soft and won't hurt her feet.
I bought some brand new white tennies at a second hand store but there are no tags so I dont know if they are for a girl or boy
