Girl Gold Shoes

My friend is throwing a Sweet 16 party for her daughter and asked to have my daughter come out in the party. Kinda like a mini bride type of thing except its a sweet 16 and not a wedding. So the birthday girl will also be wearing a gold dress as will my daughter. However, its a formal dress which is gold and satin. I am having the hardest time trying to find shoes to match!! Any suggestions? Oh and the party is this Friday so its crunch time! Thanks for any responses.

Get some gold sandals at Wal-Mart. Or get a pair of cheap thongs and hot glue gold ribbon to them for your daughter. Other gold things like flowers, beads, etc can also be used to adorn the shoes.

I don't want silver or gold shoes like every other girl is going to have and as you can see practically any color would go well with this dress! Where can I get colored prom shoes? All I can find is silver and gold!

Any bridal store has the ones you can dye to match your dress. It depends on if you want like strappy heels, open toed, closed toed, etc. So just type in a bride and formal wear store and see if they have the style you want then just pick the color! Thats what my bestfriend did last year. Have funn! :)

Unless those shoes are dipped in gold and dripping with diamonds, those prices are insane! I think it's ridiculous that every magazine I see has items that are $100 and up. Please understand, I LOVE fashion. I just wish there was a magazine dedicated to items $100 or less. Wouldn't that be nice?

The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can receive, it gives us an advantage over others when applying for scholarships and colleges. i really want to do something in a different country like africa. i like the idea of having any type of collection drive. like the commercial with this guy giving shoes to underprivileged children.

See what organizations are located in the areas you want to help, and then learn about their reputations. You do not want to send money to fund a warlord, or something. Be selective.
There are charities that give micro loans to people to start businesses, perhaps you could raise money to help people do that?

I am starting to plan for my Gold Award for Girl Scouts. I want to do something for TOMS shoes, like hosting a Style Your Sole party at my local park, including some bands from my high school and i will also collect $ donations or possibly old shoe donations too to bring to somewhere (not sure yet) for people in need. I am really interested in that topic, but idk if the Girl Scout people would allow me to collect money because for my Silver Award, they wouldn't allow me to have a bake sale to help out an animal shelter. I was able to collect items though, but last year they wouldn't let me collect $. I am also interested in anything with animals, although i did that for my Silver Award, and something with clothes, like clothing drive or collecting lightly used clothing from people and then having a clothing sale and giving the $ to an organization. IDK!!! I really need help! I need to know what I'm doing by July 1st, so please give your input

What you've described wouldn't work as a Gold Award take action project, but it can get you thinking in the right direction.

There are a few problems with what you listed that you'll need to change to take this from the bones of a good idea to a Gold Award Project.

1. You cannot raise money for another organization, period, as a Girl Scout. You can - though how you get approval varies from council to council - do money earning to fund your project, but you cannot solicit donations for another group. Which leaves tons of other things you can do, but just don't plan to include anything to get money for another group.

2. A Gold Award project should be something you dream up to address a need you see in your community (be it local, national, or global community), so running a pre-planned event for an existing organization isn't enough. I'm not familiar with the TOMS Shoes program you're talking about, but it sounds like "Style Your Soul" parties are something they have people run in their communities based on their own framework. In that case, it's not a Gold Award project. You want to find something that isn't already being done by another group, or find another angle to something already being done.

3. Your project needs to be sustainable. After you've stopped, how will the impact you're hoping to make carry on. For a shoe drive, once you've distributed the shoes, those people are helped, but that's where it ends.

Work with your advisor to figure out how you can take your interest in shoes to create a lasting/acceptable Gold Award project (maybe starting an educational program in local clinics/schools to teach kids and parents why properly fitting shoes are important AND collecting shoes for those who can't buy the next size up every time the child grows, for example, instead of just the collection).
