What shop sells good school bags in Aus?

I live in Sydney, and right now i can't find much in the way of a school backpack (medium size) Roxy and Billabong fall straight apart, Kathmandu go ratty and look lame, the real Hello Kitty is too expensive and the fake is crap.

Does anyone know where to find any good bags for reasonable prices that don't fall apart!? Thanks.

Be thankful you're allowed to bring any backpack you're allowed to school... I live in AUSTRALIA too, but I go to a private school the bag pretty much has to be a school one =[

I thought the Roxy and Billabong bags are really good?!
I've got two Roxy ones and I've put so much in them, and they are still in great condition.

Hmm, I'm not so sure... try Myer and Kmart.

Where can I find a decent selection of school bags that will fit both my books as well as my laptop?

I need a bag for school that will carry my books as well as my computer. A lot of the bags I've found are either extremely utilitarian looking (ugly), or really not intended to carry that much weight. Is there a happy medium?
I live in the great Pacific Northwest--Oregon. Everywhere I've looked has had only like 3-5 bags to choose from.

You did not say where you live, but if you have a Kohl's around you, I bet they will have exactly what you are looking for.

I found a real cool black leather one there that holds my lap top and my files (easily over 25 pounds of crap), it looks great, not hard on the shoulder and has dividers in it so I can easily find what I am looking for.

It cost 39.00.

Are school bags something to make a big deal out of?

All the girls at my school get all surf brand bags eg billabong, roxy , ripcurl and so on. Anyway I need a new one because I had my old one for 2 years it was a rusty bag. Should I spend about 50$ to buy another one like it or should I just get any old one because its just a bag.

Get a cute one because you do have to carry it every single day, but there is no reason to spend so much on a brand name one..theres tons of cute backpacks that you can get for way cheaper than 50$

What do primary school kids have in those bags with the school emblem on them?

This applies to the UK. During the past 3 or 4 years, I have seen primary school children taking an A3 sized bag which is the same colour as their school jumpers with the logo on it. They are also carrying a normal school bag and sometimes a lunch box or bag.

As I don't know of anyone with a primary school aged child, I cannot ask them.

they carry their school reading books that are given to them to read at home, and they take them back to school as they read it to their teacher. also sometimes the work they do at school they are allowed to take them home later

  • Who Is Calling Whom a Douche Bag?

I had to laugh when I read a front page media story in the NY Times on Saturday by in house art/media critic Ed Wyatt about how the use of the term douche (and its close cousin douche bag) is breaking out all over -- get this -- network shows during "Family Time."

Now, there's a lot to mock about the Times article, including the fact that Wyatt used statistics from the notoriously biased Parents Television Council to prove that the use of "douche" is very much on the upswing. And of course it's hilarious to see the Times sticking their toe in the dirty language pool, with a term that has been a school-yard staple for at least 50 years.

But let's not go down the snark path, or the media crit road just yet. Instead, let's stop for a second and see what is up here. The piece holds up people calling each other douche bags on a range of shows as some kind of example of freedom of expression, or even gritty bona fides for the networks. According to Wyatt, The use of douche  seems to represent "the latest of broadcast television's continuing efforts to expand the boundaries of taste, in part to stem the tide of defections by its audience to largely unregulated cable television."

SQR delivers textbooks and goodie-bags to village school « Sichuan ...

The SQR team took a long, bumpy ride to the north-east of Sichuan at the beginning of this week to deliver more than sixty backpacks, crammed with textbooks and other goodies, for the schoolchildren of Yanyan Village, deep in Qingchuan County. The school is currently being run by volunteers, coping with little or no resources, in a building that is no more than bamboo boards on a dirt floor, with no electricity.

Although for much of the way there the winding mountain roads were — at best — uneven dirt and stones, and in places ankle-deep in mud, our skilful driver Mr Tang got us the four-hundred kilometres there in about seven hours. We crossed two rivers and there was only one occasion where we had to get out and push the van out of an uncooperative muddy hole.

On the way back we were rather less fortunate. Not only did we have to wait more than three hours while an on-coming truck that was stuck in the middle of the road freed itself (with a bit of teamwork from all the other drivers that were waiting to pass), but we then got stuck ourselves in virtually the same spot — and all other help had chugged away up the mountain. By the time we had pushed and skidded our way out of this and several other points along this particularly bad stretch of road, it had taken six hours to travel a distance that had earlier taken about an hour, and it took another six and a half hours to complete the rest of the journey back to Chengdu, our shoes and clothes caked in mud.
