Can I learn to build furniture by reading a book or is it necessary to go to school?

I have a Woodworking Basics text but, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and wondering if I should just take a course. I can't find a school located near Lawrence Kansas to take a course. Any suggestions.

I would say if the book is detailed enough. Other than that education is the best bet. But honestly, it comes down to your style of learning.

Where to get EXTREMELY small furniture for a school project?

My friends and i are in a group together and we have to build a diorama of a cabin. We have to do the outside, and what the inside would look like. we need like doll furniture. My friend thought she had some but it turns out it's too big. where can we get some for not too much $?

I had to use doll furniture for my school project too(creating a perfect room) I found some at Michael's Craft Store for one dollar a piece, they have a lot of different kind and they're made out of wood, so you can paint them or not.

How much would it cost to build a high school?

How much would it cost to build a high school in Ontario?
For about 2000 students. Not including furniture or anything, JUST THE BUILDING.

Thanks :)
It would have:

-a cafeteria
-student store (selling spirit wear etc.)
-about 120 classrooms including specialized classes (art, photoography, science etc.)
-Teachers lounge
-Two gyms, large
-2 boys locker rooms and two girls locker rooms
-an autitorium
and many other rooms.

Millions, Science rooms alone cost any where from 20,000 to 50,000 grand for more advanced rooms. With those you would need at least four or five. 2000 students is alot so your would need alot more building which would also add to your cost. And gyms nicer ones have been known to cost up to 90,000 and above, with locker rooms/ect.

Building a School?

Hello I am supposed to build a school for my architecture class in auto cad. I was told, what room to build and to add the furniture that goes into them, but there are some rooms that I do not know about, they are called:

this building is supposed to be the administration building

1. SIS
2. Control Room LAN
3. Itinerant

could you tell me about their purpose and what things go into them?

I'm pretty sure the COntrol Room Lan is your schools computer server. Depending on the size of your school there would be a bunch machinery with blinking lights. You woul be better off just asking your teachers or actually oing to these locals though.

Ever walk into a furniture store and say, "I can build that!"?

I say that all the time, whether its Ikea or Crate & Barrel and I wonder if there's a great tutorial on how to create furniture with tools/techniques that are the standards in furniture building. The last time I ever built anything was a chessboard in high school class....class of 93, Go Gators! Anyways, if you have any comprehensive books, links or classes that are informative and close to remedial as possible would be great.

NYC

All of the time but not only do I say it, my wife will take pictures, she carries a small six foot tape with her at all times to take measurements. It may not come out just like the pictures but close enough to fool my friends. Classes are given at the local JC's, high schools and by the city in a lot of cases. If you go looking for the course that you would like to take its offered some where within the area. I have even approached a small shop owner and asked if I could watch him work he was so proud that he said he would teach me a few trick if I wanted. Now that I'm older and hopefully passed some of the things which I have learned over the years down to the younger men , It is with a sense of pride that I say I built that table.

  • For Ex-Prisoners, a Haven Away From the Streets - NYTimes.com

This year, the United States will release nearly three-quarters of a million people from prison, a record high.   Nationally, 2.3 million people are in prison in the United States, and 95 percent of them will, at some point, get out and go home.

Society has a strong interest in keeping them home — in helping them to become law-abiding citizens instead of falling back into their old ways and returning to prison.  But American programs for newly released prisoners echo the typical follies of our criminal justice system:  our politicians usually believe that voters only want the emotional satisfactions of meting out maximum punishment, even if these policies lead to even more crime.

The usual package granted to someone released from prison in New York state is $40, a bus ticket and the considerable stigma that follows an ex-offender.  Since prisoners are often held far away from their families and states charge astronomical rates for prison phone calls, prisoners often lose touch with their loved ones and may not have anyone to take them in when they get home.  They may arrive in their home cities with no plans, other than — worrisomely — those hatched with fellow prisoners.  They have little prospect for jobs or housing.  Since many don’t get effective drug treatment in prison, they might still crave a fix, which costs money.  It is little wonder that some former prisoners fall back into crime within hours or days.
