Would you buy new furniture for two years only?

Am moving to a new city for grad school - for two years. Should I buy new furniture or buy used furniture? So far I have:
Pros of new furniture - new, fresh
Cons of new furniture - expensive, only need for two years
Pros of used furniture - cheaper, can discard after two years
Cons of used furniture - unsanitary former owners, bugs, etc

Please help me decide!! I do not have much money, but I can squeeze out enough for new furniture. It would be nice to save that money though (as a poor-grad-student-to-be!). What would you do? I cannot see needing the furniture after two years, but it is a possibility! HELP ME!

(thanks!)

Look at it this way, In two years you will be moving away from your school so why buy new and have to move it. With used you can easily discard and will not be out a lot of money. Look at Salvation Army stores, Hospice stores or other charity type org. they have good quality furniture and if you continue to keep the furniture in fairly good shape you can re-donate and take the cost off on your taxes.
Good Luck

new school in the middle of the year!?

im going to a new school (probably) in january, to grade 7. im really excited but also nervous. im like a really popular type person, and i make friends fast, but ive had my issues with friends before. these are the pros of moving:
new school
my own bedroom
new furniture
1000 extra dollars (the rent is WAY lower)
new opportunities
new friends
new chances
better funded school
chance at better social life

and here are the cons:
it might be ghetto
it might be hard since i don't know anyone from the school
ill miss my old friends

so what are your tips on being the new kid and please give me the secrets to being successful in a new school (socially)
people tend to not like my full personality, i have to tone it down first, and then show my full personality when i get to know them. i know that i need to be myself, but i need better advice than that

well last year i moved to 4 different skools so you have it simple. Wat I do i just be myself. myself i moved to the ghetto once and they act different. so keep your old self in contact becuz i lost alot of friends wen i "changed" . When you go into class you know everyone gonna want to know something about you! Just try ur best to remember name. it stinks wen the new gurl calls someone else a different name. Wen you first go there just talk to some people keep it cool. introduce yourself. Okay with your friends they are goin 2 have to accept that u are moving. Have a sleep over get some numbers(dont forget to cal them) and u should be good. I hope this gave u some tips on how to accept a new skool. Trust me u will make it..

Ps: i am moving again in Feburary :(

How to talk parents into buying you new bedroom furniture???

I REALLY really want new bedroom furniture. What I have isn't cutting it (I mean come on a teenager with flowerery furniture) I want a Full sized bed, our little puppy sleeps on my bed and she isnt to happy about the lack of room either. A tall upright dresser, mine is horizontal and it is just to tempting to dump junk on it, i want a new night stand too. I mean it doesn't have to be expensive but I not going to live with this furniture. We are painting my trim white and my furniture is like a really light FAKE wood with the child like flowers. All I want is white FURNITURE is that to much to ask. So how can I talk my parents into new bedroom (white) furniture and get rid of this 3 year old's junk?????????????? Help school starts again soon and I want my room done before then.
Another thing my Mom says that painting over those flowers is not going to happen. But I don't see the problem and the thrift store is a really good idea.
I know I sound very greedy but just so you know I have never picked out my own bed in my life! And I have only had three the first one broke so they had to buy me a new one it was one of those loft beds, then we moved and my mom came here by plane and bought the flower set I have now. All I ask is that I get some say in what I get next. not greediness.

Ask them.

Listen to their answer and respond to what they say.

By that I mean: Don't get stuck in your 'I want new' and 'this stuff sucks' tantrum. Listen to their answers, their protests and objections, and answer accordingly.

They say it's fine - it's not. It's too small.
They say the flowerprint does not matter - they have a point. But it's still too small.

Negotiate your way down to what you really want.

The bigger bed is most important. Give in on other stuff and suggest a paint-job for stuff you don't like the looks of - as long as you can get a bigger bed.
When they give in to the bed, say 'with a night stand'.

Good luck. You may not get everything but make sure to get what matters to you.

I need new furniture but my mom won't buy any....?

I have a good, longlasting, furniture set picked out that totals to $522. My mom won't even consider this. All my furniture is cheap, probably from walmart, and chips a lot. My desk has been falling apart for years and it doesn't have enough space. I have on shelf and it is too small, too, and is covered in stickers and nail polish stains from a younger age. My bed isn't a bed. It's not a PLATFORM BED, it's just an ugly metal platform like this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33528501@N0 5/3150965447/
My bedding doesn't even match. I need new furniture, I don't want it, I need it, I don't have enough space and all mine is old! Instead of buying me some, she says I don't do enough which is bull. I get accepted into all the advanced programs and pass my grades with A+s.
Whenever I ask her if I can help around the house she yells at me
"I'LL TELL YOU IF I NEED HELP" but then she yells at me "YOU NEVER HELP" when she doesn't ask me for any.
Instead of buying me this $500 set, which is what she makes in two days, do you wanna know what she does? She flies to Mexico and dumps us with my grandma, drinks with her friends and buys herself this $1000 camera that she is now proclaiming "is a piece of crap"
I don't want to wait untill Christmas because I'm moving to a new school, with more work, and I need space. I am stressed enough and coming to my room even makes me stressed out more, sometimes I just break down. Please help me out...

This is what you do!

Im really not for this but ok, You got to Ikea near you, or somewhere like that okay. And you tell your mom i just wanna look around. Then you find a couple of things that match, and say hey what do you think?

She is going to give in. Be like ok but nothing more. Then your like ok.

They sell pretty neat stuff not GREAT.... BUT IKEA IS A GOOD SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE. if its 500 then plan for 350

also if u get a job there u can buy 4000 worth of stuff and they take it out of your check .... lol

  • New School Trolley or Bar Serving Cart | Perrylakes.com ...

If you are more “new school” then you might be looking for a trolley or bar serving cart that is not the typical two-level on wheels version. This piece called “Toto” features a design that is more like a cube and departs from the two level prototypes. A nice feature on the serving cart are the storage sections which offer better security from something “falling off the cart” in case one has too many drinks. More information: here.
