getting rid of big furniture/computer monitors/etc?

i have this big wooden desk thats really old. i want to dispose of it but i'm not sure where i would do that since it's so huge. does anyone know of any companies that will come to your house and pick it up? also i have an old school huge computer monitor that i want to throw away. i know i cant just throw it in the big trash can because its poisonous or something.

does anyone know how to get rid of these things? thanks.

In our area, only AmVets, Goodwill, Salvation Army or Volunteers of America will take large items and will come to your home to pick it up. As for computer items, we have to dispose of them at the hazardous waste collection site that the city holds every 6 weeks or so. Call your trash collection company asking when they hold theirs and whether they have a cupon. In our city, they charge by the pound and the cupon saves you a lot of $$ when disposing of the older heavier computer items.

When you go off to graduate school, what happens to your furniture from your old school?

Hey everyone. Just curious, is there any way to move furniture like bed frames and computer desk from an apartment you had at your undergraduate college to a graduate school in other state? It seems like a hassle and a lot of money.

I'm just wondering because if I need to sell my furniture in a couple of years before I go off to graduate school, I might as well buy cheap, quality things now instead of investing a lot for quality furniture. Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I am going to be experiencing the same thing... I'm going from GA to CA.

I would think U-Haul might be the best idea. You could try to buy cheap furniture or furniture that disassembles, but I think if you look at truck rental and gas...perhaps hotel and food, that might be less than the cost of the new furniture, or the hassle of selling the old.

Honestly, it sounds like the details will make the difference. I mean, I'm moving across country, but you may not be. I have nice furniture that can't be disassembled. It'll need to come with me. You may have furniture that may not sell for much. It's all relative, and I'm just giving you some things to think about of course!

Good luck with your decision!

We purchased a computer program for our school. Where should it be coded in Quickbooks?

Hello, I work at a small private school. We recently purchased a math program for our computer lab, which cost us $12,000. I wanted to post a question here and ask accounting professionals how I should code this purchase in Quickbooks. We have a GL account called 'computer lab' under cost of goods sold. Should it be coded there or should it be considered as fixed asset since it's more than $1,000? but if so, I am not sure which fixed asset account should be most appropriate, we have computer equipment, furniture & fixture, Office equip, leasehold improvements & school equip under fixed assets, is a computer program a computer equipment??? If anyone could give me advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking your time to read my question.

If you haven't used your 179 depreciation deduction for the year, that would would most likely be the best way to account for the purchase.

You could either record it as a fixed asset and depreciate the full amount with your yearly tax adjustments, or post it directly to an expense account and just keep the information necessary for your tax accountant.

I'm not sure how you've got your CoA set up that you'd have COGS accounts for a school... but that could be a legitimate category for such a program as well.

In short, without a lot more information, the only honest answer is that "it depends".

When making storage furniture does it have much use of computer aided design/manufacture?

I am making a small wooden storage box in my d.t class at school and i need to find out whether or not it uses cad/cam. Thank you :)

I don't know what D.T. class is. If you have easy access to CAD/CAM (computer aided drafting/computer aided manufacturing) and you know how to use it, then draw your design with details on size 'c' format. This way you can show the details, and B/M on one sheet. Include on this drawing a final 3D assy. in the upper right hand corner. It is always nice to use and store a professional drawing.
And, if you want to make changes to the project, very easy for additions or revisions. For record keeping you'll have a disk instead of a paper copy and future projects can all be stored one this one disk. A nice way to go.

What is a good prank to pull on a whole department at school?

I am in the Band in my high school. Last year on April Fool's Day, we decided to flip the whole choir room (which is next door). The choir retaliated with taking all of the music stands in the band room and putting them in our conductor's office and moved all of his furniture and computer out. Anyway, what would be a good prank to do this year?

Unplug every elextronic device flip all tables shelves desks equipment, etc.

Hope i helped!
