Either dog proof your home or place the dog in a crate when you are not there. Crating not only protects the dog but your "stuff" also.

Hello, I work at a small private school. We recently purchased a math program for our computer lab, which cost us $12,000. I wanted to post a question here and ask accounting professionals how I should code this purchase in Quickbooks. We have a GL account called 'computer lab' under cost of goods sold. Should it be coded there or should it be considered as fixed asset since it's more than $1,000? but if so, I am not sure which fixed asset account should be most appropriate, we have computer equipment, furniture & fixture, Office equip, leasehold improvements & school equip under fixed assets, is a computer program a computer equipment??? If anyone could give me advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking your time to read my question.
If you haven't used your 179 depreciation deduction for the year, that would would most likely be the best way to account for the purchase.
You could either record it as a fixed asset and depreciate the full amount with your yearly tax adjustments, or post it directly to an expense account and just keep the information necessary for your tax accountant.
I'm not sure how you've got your CoA set up that you'd have COGS accounts for a school... but that could be a legitimate category for such a program as well.
In short, without a lot more information, the only honest answer is that "it depends".

I have a lab Schnauzer mix and it is an awesome little dog. however the one problem that i have is that it has a terrible habit of chewing on random wooden objects. this list includes, a coffee table, dinner table chair legs, window moldings, computer table legs and many other things. I believed it to be a problem that could easily be fixed by putting him in a crate to sleep in and to contain him in when i go to school however he still does this occasionally when i leave the room for a few seconds... and he even has started chewing on the outdoor plastic furniture! I have bought countless bones, and plastic toys but still he reverts to the wood. Does anybody have any tips or anything to assist me? does it matter that he is not neutered?
I would get some bitter apple spray...it can be found at most pet shops it helps prevent chewing on wooden objects. you may want to try that...most dogs chew out of boredom...make sure to exercise your high energy dog every day.

Sorry this is a bit long but it's easy to follow. Okay, a little background. I was hired as a first grade teacher back at the end of July. Our school started August 3rd. I was told AFTER being hired (and contracted) that my portable classroom did not have electricity, and that it would be a few weeks before it was run to the portable buildings. The other teacher in the same predicament got hired before me and holds her class in the science lab. It is now January 11 and we have been in school over 5 months. Second semester and third quarter have begun. There is still no electricity for my classroom. Back in September, I brought my stuff up, put my room together and am ready to go (except they have yet to provide furniture, either, so there are no desks, tables or a file cabinet). While this is going on, I also do have an assigned student roll. I have 18 kids on my class roll...they are peppered into 5 other 1st grade classrooms. I visit each class once a day (usually...if they have computer or library, I don't see them at all) so I essentially teach MY students each subject one time or less a week. I am held 100% accountable for them, their grades, their DIBELS, etc. I've been pulled to substitute in my grade level as well as other grade levels, but am still responsible for my kids. While I don't mind doing whatever is asked of me, I can't see HOW I can be held accountable for 'my' students in this situation. I just want to quit. I'm looking into private schools now and just mailed out some resumes. But until then, does anyone have any advice? I'm ready to just walk out.
I hope you joined your union when you began working. You need to call them immediately. Check your contract. See what the job description is as listed in your contract. Also check to see what is required in the event that you want to quit. Many teaching contracts do not allow you to quit without some sort of penalty. Your union will be able to give you the best advice. They will advise you on what your rights and options are. Worst case scenario would be to stick it out for this year then put in for a transfer next year. It doesn't seem as if this school has any sense of urgency or respect for your time and capabilities.
I am getting married summer 2010, after being together for 5 yrs (he will be 22 and I will be 23). We are both late bloomers for going to college. I did get certified to be a veterinary assistant, but decided to go to more schooling for more lab work. I am in my first year taking my generals to be a Clinical Lab Technician, I will graduate when I am 25 in yr 2012. He is going to school to be an Electrical Engineer and already has his first year out of the way so he also will be graduating yr 2012, at the age 24 (he may go on to grad school but isn't sure yet). We also both said that we would like to have children at a younger age. Plus, his school has daycare for students with kids. My older sister and her husband are both in college and we have seen how they live and what they spend there money on from there student loans. My sister even said that if she got pregnant right now it would be hard but they could manage if they had an unplanned pregnancy. Her spouse and her are paying rent, a car payment, they bought new furniture, new TV, they go on cheap vacations, and have 2 cats; she only works in the summer, and he only works part time during the school year and full time in the summer the rest of there money comes from student loans. So here is what my fiancee and I were hoping to do: we want to get pregnant during our 3 yr of college so that the baby would be born in the summer going into our last year of college, and we would spend our money differently from what my sister and her spouse are, we would have daycare through his school and insurance too. My fiancee is guaranteed a job right after he graduates because he is getting his schooling paid for through the ROTC program and will have to serve in the Air Force for 4 yrs after he graduates. I feel this is a good time to start a family. We have talked about it and he said the answer isn't a no, it is a maybe because he said he isn't sure I'm ready to take on the responsibility. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Would this be a good time to start a family? Does it sound like we have it planned out right?
We talked about it more and we found a way that I can possibly graduate in 2 to 2 1/2yrs instead of 3yrs. We were actually pregnant with an unplanned pregnancy while I was going to school to get certified as a veterinary assistant (plus I feel I have that to fall back on if need be). The pregnancy ended with a miscarriage though. So, I went through being pregnant and a miscarriage all while in school already (and I came out with a B 3.0 GPA didn't drop any classes or anything) so we aren't really worried about me being pregnant and being in school cause we have already had experience with that. Thank you for your comments everyone. We have decided that unless we can find a way for me to finish school sooner than 3yrs we will wait. My whole last semester of school would be an internship so my whole last semester wouldn't consist of a lot of studying for me. We are hoping that I can at least be able to finish my classes in 2 1/2yrs then we don't have to wait.
no
pregnancy and school does not mix well
wait until through school and settled into a job.
