Hi All! My 9 yr old son has an invention project for school. He wants to make a "machine" that will do your homework for you, do your chores (feed the dog, set the table, etc.), and he wants to be able to play his PSP (Playstation Portable) on it.
Some ideas he has come up with so far include: a box, some silver spray paint, some knobs, and his extra PSP cover attached somehow.
Can anyone think of any other ideas on how to make this? He's not real happy with what he has so far, but neither him nor I possess any creativity whatsoever. Any ideas/help/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
perhaps the box could have an opening on either end. One end to insert the homework, the other end where the completed homework comes out.
You could do a bulleted list on the computer of all the chores it would do (I would probably limit it to less than 10 for space reasons) Attach this to the face of the box and press Red bulletin board tacks (the ones with the high heads) into the cardboard where the bullets on the list are. This way your son could just push a thumb tack button to indicate what chore the machine should do.
OR: It could have the same list idea with a time indicated as to when the chore should be done. You could get a small, flat, cheap digital clock from the automotive department at Walmart so that the machine knows when the clock says 6:00 then it should set the table, or 7:30am for feeding the dog, etc.
Just an idea! Good luck! I hope he makes an A no matter what he does. :)

Try adding a doll. Insert it waist up coming out of the top of the box. The doll's arms would be what does all the work, while your son plugs in his directions to the box using his dials, etc. You could even add some extra arms, so it can do more than one project at a time. He can add things in each hand to represent what the "invention" does. You could place the box on a roller skate or some other sort of wheels. After all, it has to be able to get around (Smile) to do it's work. Spray paint the doll the same color as the box.
Have fun!

You can put the robot on an RC car so it can move around...if it is not too big.
Try putting a 9 volt battery in it and put some lights on the outside...
Put two slinkies as arms. Put work gloves on the ends of the slinkies
Try multiple boxes....a large one for the body, small one for the head.
get creative with paint. For example, the box can be solid silver...but put a yellow lightning bolt on the chest (or something similar)

I am doing a school project and I have to pretend to be setting up a business. I chose a web design business where people pay via paypal. I can't find the price for a basic premier account.. could you give me the end cost please? It's confusing...
Paypal is free, but they take .05 percent per transaction. To have a premier account you have to have I think $500.00 in transaction per month. Check out B4CLASS.COM, it tells you more.

Lets pretend that a group of parents have objected to the mention of the concept of evolution being taught in the public schools. The school district always wants to keep the parents happy but they also feel that evolution is a key concept in science. Your job is to present both sides of the issue. Your report needs to include both the purpose for evolution in science and the removal of evolution in science. There is not set volume that needs to be written, only that you cover both issues.
can anyone start me out or give me some ideas that would go either way
The argument that that evolution is only a theory could be made for almost everything in science. There is the theory of gravitation, the theory of relativity, the theory that germs cause disease, etc. Theory is what makes isolated facts into science. To think science is only a set of facts and that you can remove the theory without doing any harm is fundamentally wrong. Science is a way of looking at the world, that assumes that everything can be examined and every theory can be questioned and accepted or rejected using the scientific method of reason and evidence. Without understanding the theory of evolution students can not understand the reasoning that supports much of modern biology. The facts may change with new discoveries but the habits of thought will still be valid,
There are things in the development of complex life that the theory of evolution does not adequately explain, and these should be included, but to assert the these are evidence of a designer is not science. The scientific method requires that theory must be able to make predictions that can be disproved. The theory of intelligent design can not be prove wrong because it makes no such predictions.

Higher education master plan getting ignored
That's the finding of a report released Thursday by the state's Office of the Legislative Analyst. It says today's reality of soaring student fees, volatile college budgets and enrollment caps are so far removed from the guiding Master Plan, that something must be done to bring them in line.
The Master Plan was crafted in 1960 to establish a coordinated system of colleges and universities, with the goal of steering students appropriately toward the University of California, California State University or community college largely free of charge.
"Today its assumptions look pretty quaint," said Steve Boilard, the report's author. "There's a big disconnect between what the state's priorities are and what's actually going on."
That point is not lost on thousands of students and families angry about rising fees at a time when many can't even get into basic courses.
At a recent protest in Long Beach, where the CSU trustees raised yearly fees by 20 percent to $4,026, students held an all-night vigil, reading aloud from the Master Plan.
