The toy boat sailed the world. The boy had made it and set it adrift. This is an old one.
Maybe you are thinking of Paddle to the Sea (1966).
Paddle to the Sea, the short film named after the carved wooden toy boat it tracks through various waterways from Canada to the Atlantic Ocean, is Canadian director William Mason's sweet homage to the 1940s children's book. Like The Red Balloon, Paddle To The Sea folklorically portrays a toy's journey, with a bit of added personification since the whittled boat contains a stoic Native American man carved into its seat. The film begins in a Nipogon log cabin, where a boy laments releasing his newly crafted artwork but soon realizes that setting his toy free is the only way to enliven it. After pouring molten lead into the boat's base to encourage its floating upright, and writing "I am Paddle to the Sea: Please Put Me Back in the Water" on the boat's underside, he drops the boat into a snowy stream and hopes someday it will reach the ocean. Beyond the film's wise message of non-attachment, wonderment is sustained throughout while trying to guess how Mason managed to track this swift-sailing canoe down river rapids, through industrially polluted waterways, and even over Niagara Falls. Fortuitous shots of animals investigating the boat as if to eat it seem almost pre-planned. Cameras strapped onto rafts, lowered down cliffs by rope, and more enabled the director to follow the toy in close-up, as if he were filming a wildlife documentary. Narrated from an omniscient point of view by a man with a soothing storyteller's voice, Paddle to the Sea is a lullaby to tranquility that entertains with simple charm and clever wit.

did you have any toy from the 80-90s that you just loved? or if your a parent, did your kid have any such toys. im actually only 13, but my sister is 10 years older than me, so i had TONS of hand-me-downs from that time period. my favorite toy was this fisher price kitchen set from the early 80s. i thought it was the greatest thing in the world. i was also very fond of the fisher price little people sets (i had just about all of them), the original light bright, Lincoln logs, etch-a-sketch, creepy crawlers, and this thing called (something like) view master 3d. i think thats what it was called. it was this huge thing that looked like binoculars, and you'd put a circular, cardboard, thing of slides in it, and you would look through and see the pictures. mine was in the shape of mickey mouse. lol. i even had tons of lego sets that were actually for girls! they were pink bricks! i loved that! i can't believe that back in the early 90s they had sets with like spa resorts, cafes, horse back riding, and hotels. and now they just have like, star wars and boy stuff. that upsets me.
did you have any of these kinds of toys when you were a kid?
what was your favorite?
I had most of these toys then some but my favourite toy was;
Clackers, it was two rock hard balls tied tied at each end of a thin string simpler to a shoe lace. You would hold the strip in the middle with the balls hanging down. You would start bouncing the balls off of each other until the momentum would get the balls going up and over you hand and smash into each other. They would make this great noise and the faster you could go the bette it sounded. It was quit a skill to keep it going for any length of time.
The problem was when the got going so fast inevitably the balls would miss each other and they would rap off of your wrist, man did that hurt.
Every parent was horrified, they told us the would give us bone cancer and they took them off of us.
Well well 35 years later I still have a set, I bring them out once or twice every 5 years and my kids try them. Then I'm horrified and I take them off of them.
I think I'll bring them out tomorrow, my moms coming ever LOL

that looks like a set of different sized gears with holes strategicly placed, and you put a pencil in one of the holes and draw pretty designs on paper? Ive been sitting here for half an hour wracking my brain and this is the only place I can think to get answers right away =P

I run a construction club at a primary school and this toy is always very popular.

The problem is a few of the parts are broken and need replacing.
Aynone know of anywhere that sells this? Or even better, does anyone have a set they are willing to sell me?
I know the set and I know how popular it is. I would look for a set on ebay and maybe your school would come up with the money to buy it.

Best 0f 2010: Music, TV and Movies « Old Gold & Black
. Whether they were surprises (like Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers’ debut solo album) or popular bands that managed to live up to the hype (Arcade Fire’s latest album — and longest yet, clocking in at a little over an hour), these artists made music that is worth a listen.
The top two albums, in particular, were both masterpieces that stood high above everything else this year.
10. Brandon Flowers: : With season four of AMC’s fan-favorite period piece, Jon Hamm cemented himself as the best actor on TV.
Hamm’s Don Draper is one of the most wonderfully nuanced characters in television history.
This has never been more apparent than in the past year where Draper lost control and then struggled to find himself throughout the course of the season.
Anchored by “The Suitcase,” the best single episode of anything in 2010, the combination of Hamm’s Draper, wonderful supporting acting, and spot-on production design, is the most underappreciated show on television. The show’s most impressive feat was successfully handling the transition of losing mainstay characters to graduation and transitioning to new ones who are equally interesting: a rare accomplishment for a high-school set series.
