What is the cost of a American private school uniform?
AFS-051148

Cost in dollars please!!!!! : )

LA, CA private schools:

My son's private school let's us buy uniforms wherever. I get them at Old Navy on sale - 5 khaki shorts x $10, 5 khaki pants X $10, 5 polo shirts x $5 Total = $125 + tax The girls can add about $50 for a plaid skirt and a skort. I'm glad the uniforms are cheap because the tuition is expensive!

Other schools make you buy uniforms at their vendor. Private girls school, Mills SchoolWear - polo 5 x $16 = 80, skirts 5 x 30 = $150, slacks 2 x $30 = 60, dress blouses 2 x $30 = $60 Total = $350

Some schools require blazers, that would be around $100 for one.

Of course, prices can vary greatly.

IMG_6938aw

we have uniforms but the collared shirt can be any color but the pants cant be jeans they have to be pants (brown or navy)
i need to know does abercrombie, hollister, american eagle ect. sell those kinds of clothes year round?

oh im a guy

I used to have to get navy pants.
I got navy cords in the winter at J. Crew & American Eagle.
I've also gotten plain blue pants at AE in the spring/fall.
I'm sure it's the same for guys...
If by brown you mean more of a dark khaki, you can definitely get them. Go to the stores and look around a little bit, or go to a department store. Even if you don't want to spend too much, you can probably find a nice pair on sale.

The rules are different in every town. Most don't require uniforms. In my High School we were supposed to ware blue bottoms and white tops, because they are the town colors. My bbf went to Catholic high school and they had regular uniforms.

I have the strictest school uniform code. How can I personalize my uniform? *going into middle school*
F_48870_AHA3Nl8Fl0lUNl9FmNTsyDkzEkUELs

How can I customize this uniform without getting in trouble?

This is the school uniform list:

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We believe that the dress code is an important component in promoting and teaching many characteristics that we feel are essential such as responsibility, accountability, attention to detail, and the importance of a neat and well-groomed appearance. There are guidelines that govern dress and grooming to ensure a relatively consistent appearance. Our uniform also serves as a reminder that each of our students is a part of something special and unique, something that is greater than they are. Thus there are guidelines that govern dress and grooming to ensure a consistency of appearance. (I hate our principal for this. Ha)

DRESS CODE

1.All attire must be neat, clean, and appropriately sized. (Neat? Clean?)

2. Clothing Identification: To facilitate the return of lost clothing, all items should be clearly labeled with nametags or indelible ink. (On everything? Even pants? Who is going to steal my pants?! Stealing pants is SO un-American.

3. Uniform clothing is required for all grades, K4 - 12th, and must be purchased from certain stores: (I’m not going to list them) AND meet the uniform requirements detailed at the bottom of this section.

SHIRTS (Girls and Boys):

***School insignia is required. ***

- Any T-Shirt worn under a knit shirt must be solid white. Long sleeved T-Shirts are not allowed underneath short sleeved knit shirts.
- All shirts must be worn tucked in at all times. (Nobody does. SO TAKE THAT!)

SWEATERS & SWEATER VESTS (Girls and Boys):

***School insignia is required. ***

SWEATSHIRTS (Girls and Boys):

***School insignia is required. ***

- No hooded sweatshirts allowed or sweatshirt jackets (why?)
- An approved collared shirt must be worn underneath sweatshirts at all times. (Collared?)

SLACKS & SHORTS (Girls and Boys):

- Slacks and shorts must have belt loops, must be worn with belts and must be fitted to the waist.
- Shorts must be no shorter than 4" above the knee.
- Boys short must be no longer than 3" below the knee.
- Pull on Style (K4 and K5 only)

SKIRTS (Girls):

- Skirts are to be fitted to the waist and no shorter than 4" above the knee.
- Shorts or tights must be worn underneath skirts (K4 - 5th) *of course underneath. Where else would they go? Over? Who does that?*

JUMPERS (Girls):

- Jumpers must be no shorter than 4" above the knee.

BELTS (Boys and Girls):

- Belts must be worn with slacks and shorts. (No skirts? ha-ha)
- Solid black, brown or Plaid Belt (WHAT?!)
- Standard buckle (WHAT?!)
- No ornamentation (WHAT?!)

SOCKS (Boys and Girls): (why do they even have a section for socks?)

- Socks or Approved leg wear are required at all times. (Duh, because they don’t let us wear any sandals or heels)
- Only solid-colored black, brown, red, white, or gray socks are approved. (No purple?)

HOSIERY (Girls):

*** Socks or approved leg wear are required at all times. Leggings are not permitted. (Crap, no leggings…)
- Solid-colored opaque tights (Red, black, white, or gray)
- Sheer hosiery (No Patterns Allowed) (Grades 6-12 only) *WHAT? Why no patterns?*

SHOES (Boys and Girls):

*** All shoes must be below the ankle with closed toes and heels. Shoes must be worn with socks or approved leg wear. Boots of any kind are prohibited with the exception of Timberland style boots, which must be ankle height or lower. Platform shoes are not allowed.
- Leather shoes with closed toes and heels (black or brown only)
- Saddle oxfords
- Bucs
- Low top athletic shoes in solid black, solid white or white trimmed with red, navy, blue, black or gray.
- No other styles or colors allowed. (Darn, no green.)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Boys and Girls)

***School Insignia Required***

- Gym shorts (red, black or gray knit)
- Any School T-shirt (why ONLY a SCHOOL t-shirt? I want to show off my “I’m with the Band” shirt!)
- Sweatpants (red, black or gray)
- Sweatshirts (red, black or white - school insignia only)

OUTERWEAR (Boys and Girls): Grades 6-12

- School letter jackets
- School club or activity jackets (No Hoods) *darn, no hoods*
- Official school jackets available through approved Uniform Shops with school Logo
Outerwear must be properly sized and worn with proper uniform clothing underneath.

ACCESSORIES:

- Earrings on boys are prohibited. (Ha, all the emo kids are mad.)
- Girls may wear two earrings per ear. Earrings must be worn in the ear lobe only. (Darn it. That ruined my plan for high school.)
- Hats or caps are not permitted in the buildings during the school day. They may be worn from building to building and to and from the parking lot. Hats must be worn with the bill in front at all times. (What? Hats have to be worn a certain way, even though you can only wear them from the parking lot and from building to building?)

>>>>> ANY ITEM NOT LISTED IS UNACCEPTABLE. <<<<<

Additional Guidelines and Restrictions

1. Hair is to be maintained so that it is not extreme. No shaved heads or inappropriate hair colors are allowed. (No pink?)
Boys’ hairstyles must meet the following limitations:
-Not below the bottom of the ear lobe (including side burns) *No Elvis impersonators?*
-Above the eyes in front
-Not over the collar
-Clean shaven (ha, they let my sister’s friend slide for having a mustache)
2. All clothing must be free of holes or ragged appearance. (??????)
3. Any clothing which is too tight, too loose, or too revealing is unacceptable (I’m glad that too tight thing also applies to fat people…Just kidding!)

THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED:

- Earrings on boys (emo kids are retaliating)
- Hats or sun glasses inside the buildings (Crap, no Dr. Seuss hat!)
- Bandannas (gangsters hate us.)
- Facial and Body Piercing (what about the belly button? With this strict list you won’t even see it since belly buttons can’t show!)
- Chains on Billfolds (*grumble*)
- Tattoos (OMG! What not? What are they going to scan you or something?)
- Black fingernail polish (Ha, I wear it to school sometimes. They never notice when you keep your hands in your pocket!)
- Any clothing or accessory that the administration deems unsuitable

Penalties for Dress Code Violations

Teachers are to send students to the Counselors Office if clothes are in question. Any student not dressed within the policy code will have his or her parents contacted. Repeated violations of dress code policy may result in the following:
1. The parent may bring the student appropriate clothing (the student will remain unexcused out of class until the appropriate attire is brought to the school). *so un-cool*
2. The student may purchase acceptable clothing in the school store if it is available (parents will be billed for the purchase).
3. The student will serve in-school suspension. Continued violations of school dress code policy may result in suspension or expulsion. *WTF?!*

This sucks. I NEED REAL CLOTHES! In addition, I thought this school supported freedom to Americans and non conformity? I guess not…

I agree Abby <3, that isn't right! Emo kids are mad because they don't have their earrings where they want, and can't wear nail polish.

But I think our school just trys to make us look representable, because we get vistors...alot. Haha.

GEEZ!! It's like they are trying to make you be what they want you to be. That isn't right!

Anyways, try wearing cute nail polish, cute earrings, and shoes. And maybe a necklace and rings. And a scarf, if they allow that.

  • Richard Reeves: Trying to persuade an audience of one

LOS ANGELES — Most of what you read, see and hear about Afghanistan is not meant for you. The words, optimistic and pessimistic, right and wrong, all the leaks, all the numbers of troop estimates, costs and polls are aimed at an audience of one: the president.

It is very hard to get to chat with any president. But any president has to know what is in the big three of American newspapers (or their Web sites): The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal. And those papers right now are filled with shouting and whispering to President Barack Obama. The latest shout, a big one, is the leaking to the Times of cables to the State Department from the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, who also happens to be a former military commander of American troops in the country.

That would be ambassador and former Gen. Karl Eikenberry, who told the president that there might be no point in sending more young men and women in uniform to win an unwinnable war in a vast country largely ungoverned or governed by unfathomable corruption. Eikenberry’s “classified” words were obviously meant as a countermove designed to check the “classified” request for 40,000 more American troops by the current military commander, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, leaked to The Washington Post last month.

A school in America forgets they are the parents' EMPLOYEES - Knee ...

There is so much wrong with this story. There are more than enough elements about the mistreatment of an US Army officer and his family, that my blood just boils. At the beginning of this sorry state of affairs, a parent was asking to be heard on an issue within his children’s school: uniforms. The school administration arbitrarily made a decision affecting the families, and refused to follow Roberts Rules of decorum at a PTA meeting, thereby trying to silence a father’s right to debate a policy issue which will directly impact every student in the school.

After attempts to silence, intimidate this mother and father, and realising that THIS family refuses to be bullied into silence, this administration then crossed the line BIG TIME and called this US Army officer’s chain of command. I told you there is so much wrong to this story. I am still fuming, so will let someone else lay out the details (and they are damning, believe me):
