Everything Lakers, in all their glory
What began as an honest homage has multiplied into a madcap home makeover. "It's the biggest collection of Lakers memorabilia known," Kohler tells me proudly. "It started just by growing up in Southern California and loving the Lakers and has continued to grow over the last 25 years."
In that time, Kohler has built what looks like a life-size Lakers diorama and feels like a full-court press on a fan's sensory system.
It's all there, just as you remember it.
Pick a moment in Lakers history, and you're sure to find it represented in tactile form. Start with the franchise's first dynastic years from 1948 to 1954. In honor of the early glory, Kohler has George Mikan's 1953 NBA MVP trophy. Fast-forward through a few dark years to 1958, the top overall draft pick and the Lakers Rookie of the Year selection. For its commemoration, Kohler has Elgin Baylor's actual rookie jersey and warm-up jacket -- signed, too, of course.
Some sage Lakers fans may recall the retirement of the mighty George Mikan in 1954, but in case you don't, Kohler preserves the legacy of the great Lakers big man with a college All-Star uniform (circa 1940), his Minneapolis Lakers shooting jersey and a pair of his signature eyeglasses worn on the court.

What is the point of school uniform ? Half of it usually ends up getting lost, or your child comes home wearing somebody else's fleece. Why can't we let children be indivduals instead of an identikit clone?
And why do so many schools insist on parents buying one particular brand of uniform, which you can only get from one specialist shop, which coincidentally happens to be the most expensive shop in town.
Springing for a full set of uniform can leave your bank balance feeling more than a little battered and bruised.
When I was at school, I couldn't wait for the day that I didn't have to wear that hideous maroon tartan outfit any more. So it feels a bit mean to be forcing my lot into their regulation bottle green. Mind you, I think I was a bit mentally scarred from the fact that my mum decided that the school blazer was so expensive, she was going to extract maximum money's worth, and make me wear it at the weekend as well. True story. Is it any wonder I'm bitter?As both a teacher, and as a parent, I can categorically state that 'uniform' beats 'non-uniform' every time! Especially so as children get older; the pressure to be 'fashionable' is immense, distracting and destructive. 'Individuality' can be better expressed by character, participation and application.....those that can't achieve without recourse to 'fashion' are, at best, ineffectual...live with it!
