British School Uniform

my school:

skirt/trousers - maroon
trousers - black
tie - maroon, blue and grey
shirt - white
pullover - grey
blazer - grey
grey tights or grey socks
black, flat, lace up shoes

though, my school is a private school, so it's a little different than the others (not too much) and a little ore strict.


there's a normal high school near me:

skirt/trousers - blue (skirts) - black (trousers)
tie - black, blue and red
shirt - white
you do not have to wear a pullover but you can if you don't want to - blue
blazer - black
black tights, i have no idea about the socks
any type of black 'school shoes'


i prefer my school uniform to the other school but you're probably thinking these schools are crazy but no, it doesn't look as weird as it sounds, when it's on! (maybe i didn't give the best examples of schools either!)

I'm a 15 year old male who is going off to a boarding school next year in England (I'm from the U.S.). I've noticed in the school information that the uniform shorts that they require (and we are required to wear shorts in the warm months) are a 4 inch inseam which appears to come above mid-thigh. I don't know if I want to be walking around to class or having people seeing that much leg on me.... Are there other schools like this there? Is this normal there? If you don't mind, if you might consider providing the name of any schools with a similar requirement so that I can check and see if this is normal... I think it's crazy myself.

As a product of the English Boarding cshool system I can guarantee you that yes indeed short shorts are the norm. In fact at my school Cheltenham Ladies' College we were expected to do athletics in the summer in what can only be described as big knickers. It is purely to humiliate you.

usually black trousers for boys and girls, although some schools may have their own rules, as for tops it varies from school to school in brighton where we are all the schools have their own tops with logos on, at my daughters schooll y7 and 8 wear shirts with ties and jumpers, y9 onwards wear polo shirt and sweatshirt, these have school logo and have to be bought from school. my sons school have same uniform all thru navy or white polo shirt and blue sweatshirt all with logo and again all bought from school hope this helps.
