How did the Japan high school students giving and receiving buttons come about?
Young Schoolgirl Returning Home in Tokyo

It works like this: the guy is going off to college and if he has girl admirers, they chase him down for one of his buttons from his high school uniform.
I've seen this only in shoujo manga books and I'm guessing that this probably happens in real life because it's a repetitive theme.

What does it mean? Is it like the girls getting a piece of the guy before he goes off to college? Or does the guy give it to the girl he's interested in? Lastly, does it work with girls too like the girl giving the guy one of her school uniform buttons?

On the day when we have graduation ceremony, some girls come to and ask guys" Can you give me the second button"
Why we call the button SECOND, because this is from the upper button. I'm not sure if you know our old style school uniform, though, there are 5 or 6six buttons on the unfirom. The color is black and there is stand-up collor.. ahh absolutely you know it caz you have many Japanse shoujo comics. and,, what??
Why the girls want the second button, caz this button is located near heart,, the guy's heart. This has very important meaning for girls.
I'm 26 man. When I was a junior high school student, we saw that matter. But I don't know whether it is happening recently.

BTW,, I have not been asked by girls for my second button...,,lol

How much does a Japanese high school uniform cost?
Verticals: School girl

I am wanting to take my junior year of high school in japan. So, I want to know how much a public high school uniform would be. Also, how much would the winter top be. And if you know this, how much would the uniforms be?

There is no simple answer to your question.

It depends on each school.

And uniform is not only one product. It's total set of blouse, skirt, shoes, socks, bag and even uniform for gym class.

You have to buy all of them. I don't know how much it could be. But I think it could be 40,000-80,000 yen in general.

Are there any good programs were a high school student in America could transfor to Japan for a year???
Sailor Fuku from Edelweiss

I'm and 8th grader and am in love with Japan. So I was wondering if there were any good programs that I could bring up with the high schools administration that would allow me to transfor there for a year? I know that I need to be in my 2nd year of high school, and need good grades to do so. I have done some research and it stated that I am only allowed 1 year, and most high schools have school uniforms...But that's about it. So if you all could please give me any infomation about any programs that would allow me to go there for a year then please tell me! And if you ANY infomation about there high schools please tell me that too! Thank you.

You would have to check with your school I know my school dose though I am in Canada but just ask around ask admistrastion they would be able to tell you I know here you can go for 2 weeks or 1 year

How much is it for books and a uniform in a basic Japanese high school?
まさと

I know that's a vague description...but just a basic high school in Japan...I just want an estimation cause i want to be an exchange student there. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Public high school in Japan uses free textbooks given by the government and uniform would cost around 20,000 yen for girls and a little bit less for boys.
Private high school uses some textbooks given by the government but sometimes has special books that the school privately makes/ purchases so it could cost something like up to 10,000yen maximum. The school uniform is more expensive since they often hire a designer to make it. For girls, it would be 30,000 - 40,000 including shoes, bags and sometimes even socks. For boys it would be similar but maybe a little bit cheaper. They also have "funds" that students donate some money for. They say it is not mandatory but most of them do.
