Is it weird to wear a military uniform to a high school reunion?

My husband and I are attending his 20 year high school reunion in Florida. He has been in the Navy for 20 years and I told him that I thought he should wear his uniform to the reunion. (He has to buy all these uniforms and almost never has a chance to wear them, so I figured why not.) He is reluctant to wear it, saying that he thinks people might think it is weird. I told him that after 20 years of service to his country, he shouldn't hesitate to wear it.

My question - if someone showed up to your 20 year high school reunion, would you think it was strange that they were wearing a uniform instead of a suit? Or, if someone DID show up to your reunion in a uniform, what was the response from other party goers?

Thanks for any opinions!

All i can say is WEAR IT! If a person attended a reunion in a military uniform, i would totally respect them. I feel that the uniform represents honor, courage, and freedom, and if someone at your reunion thinks it is weird, then they need a history lesson! After 20 years of dedication to the united states, he should wear that dang uniform to sleep! He might get a few glances, but people are probably trying to see what part of the service hes in, or what his "rank" is. I say wear it, and due to the fact that hes serving out country, nobody will think that its wierd!

Why did the Army change their service uniform?

Turd green was perfect. I wore it in JROTC. They now look like security guards. Or a military school uniform. Also is there anyway I can opt to stay with Service green? The new uniforms don't even go with the berets and the officer hat or cover makes him look like a fool.
You want to look good in uniform, why are you even talking about the field.
I keep forgetting the Army can wear there cammies through the airport, so I guess its really not that big of a deal.

its a dress uniform. you'll wear it once or twice a year. as far as the army goes, who cares what their dress uniform looks like? they're a field branch not a parade branch.

why did we change it back to blue? because thats what we started off with.

edit: im not talking about the field, im talking about the purpose of the army. the army's purpose is to fight and win wars and to do so in the field. if why we dont spend as much on PR as the marines do. i can literally count on one hand the number of times i wore my dress uniform in 4 years after basic and ait. the army is about what works, not what looks pretty: and if you're looking pretty in a dress uniform then you're not working. so again: who really cares what you'll look like on the few days you actually do pay day activities? all you do on those days is show up, get inspected, then leave. honestly, we shouldnt even have dress uniforms: they're a waste of money (both the governments and soldiers) and its not our job to look pretty for the public, thats the usmc's job

Can military servicemen/women visit their old high schools in uniform?

Just wondering. I heard about some incident a bit back where a graduated student was forced to leave his old high school while visiting because he was in uniform.

It just seems really wrong to me, taxpayer funded schools kicking out military servicemen, especially graduated students.

Thanks for the answers.

Yes, However it really depends upon your visit. Some schools will only allow each branch of the military to visit the school once or twice per year (thus fulfilling their requirement allowing recruiting).

If you do it on your own (without the recruiter), Just make sure you check in with the office and let them know your intent is not recruiting. Just that you wanted to check in with your old teachers and some friends.

Chances are they would welcome you back.

  • Kapar brothers grab opportunity to study at military school ...

, 16, From Kapar, Klang, turned down financial aid last August stating it should go to more deserving cases as they were physically capable.

When the Royal Malaysian Army advertised for an intake at their secondary vocational military training school (Perintis Pertukangan Tentera Darat) last week, we immediately notified the brothers.

On Monday, rushed them to the nearest shopping centre and bought them a pair of school uniforms.

Asked why they had not worn their school uniforms for the interview, the boys replied they could not afford to buy them this year as they needed to save money to pay for their older brother's tuition and SPM examination fees.

After waiting for over two hours before they were called in for the screening process, the boys finally emerged from the hall with big smiles on their faces.

Shahnaz screamed across the parking lot: "We made it! We passed the screening tests, all of it!"

However, there is another internal sieving process to be conducted and the boys will know if they are accepted when the final intake shortlist is made known next month.
