I'm a 15 year old male who is going off to a boarding school next year in England (I'm from the U.S.). I've noticed in the school information that the uniform shorts that they require (and we are required to wear shorts in the warm months) are a 4 inch inseam which appears to come above mid-thigh. I don't know if I want to be walking around to class or having people seeing that much leg on me.... Are there other schools like this there? Is this normal there? If you don't mind, if you might consider providing the name of any schools with a similar requirement so that I can check and see if this is normal... I think it's crazy myself.

As a product of the English Boarding cshool system I can guarantee you that yes indeed short shorts are the norm. In fact at my school Cheltenham Ladies' College we were expected to do athletics in the summer in what can only be described as big knickers. It is purely to humiliate you.

School uniforms have several advantages. They eliminate the distraction of competitive dressing, and studies show that overall grades improve in schools which require uniforms (but not in those where uniforms are optional). This is probably because they create a more serious academic atmosphere, and enable students to express themselves through their studies and writing instead of the superficiality of clothing and shoes. Also, they remove some of the more obvious difference between students of different socioeconomic levels, since you don't need to buy as many outfits (just two, really, one in the wash), and many schools provide uniforms at no cost to those who can't afford them. They also create more of a school spirit and school pride.

My cousin is moving to Milan and is going to be enrolling in the British Academy of Milan. She wanted to know what an Italian private school uniform look like, but I don't have a clue.

Can you find me a picture if a girl's private school Italian uniform? I need an actual picture please, not information to get a picture or a meaningless website. She's also 16, so a high school uniform would be good.

Hi dear, let your cousin know that in Italy we don't wear uniforms, not even in private school. She'll be free to dress the way she wants, as long as it's not her pajamas or something inappropriate.
