how do you feel about a mandatory school uniform policy?

Should the county i live in (Sampson) North Carolina Board of Education adopt a mandatory School Uniform Policy?

School uniforms are a great idea in my opinion. Children should be focusing on learning, not who has the best designer jeans - in my area there are discounts on school uniforms, so parents don't have to spend tons of money for school clothes. It is also nice not to have to figure out what to wear every morning.

WCBI News story on the Starkville School District uniform policy. Story aired on January 12, 2010.

Do u think schools should have a school uniform policy?

I go to a private school and we have to wear uniforms. all my life i have gone to a private school and sort of liked wearing a uniform. from my middle school years at a public school my family payed to much money for clothes. do u think schools should have a uniform policy?

Even if they did people would still find a way to tweak them to fit their own persona, anyway.
I personally don't think they should, there really is no point. It's just one less thing they can tease each other about, sure, but they'll find about a million and one more ways.

Would there be any way to get rid of school uniform policy?

I look so stupid in my uniform.

You could try to petition it, with signatures. If you got every student in the school, plus teachers, parents, and supporters, you would have a fair fight. But that it a lot of work and Alot of signatures. But if you are committed then hey go for it.

Do parents have a right to overpower the school uniform policy if the student has a note?

i go to a public school and one of our rules is that we need to tuck in our shirts (boy or girl) i don't feel comfortable with tucking in my shirt so my mother wrote me a note excusing me from it but the school says that my parents can do anything.

is that true?
being so uncomfortable is a problem for me and i dont want to tuck it in.

but i know that a parents say so can override the school

if it was something ridiculous then i would understand but this is just a shirt.

No, your parents can't get you out of dress code. Most people don't like tucking in their shirts but if that's the dress code you all have to do it. Consider wearing a sweater or something.

How to personalize a school uniform with a strict policy?

My uniform policy couldn't be any more detailed. There must be a few things to personalize my uniform though. So please tell me ANY ideas or tips!
NO jewlery, makeup, hair dye.
Shoes must take to a shine and be a loafer, or a black shoe. NO designs, colours, or other textures. Only uniform sold at the uniform shop may be worn in or out of class.

- What about purses? You could put some cute buttons and pins to personalize (I'm totally bringing my Elvis purse to school. Ha-ha)

-Well, you said no Jewelry, did ya? So I suppose bracelets count. Maybe you could wear a long sleeve shirt, and when teachers come by, you could hide the bracelets under the sleeves? IDK. ha-ha.

-Scarfs? Ha ha, just a random though.

-Hairstyles? Something cute. :-) You can check out some websites for easy to do hair styles.

-What about nail polish? A cute color maybe...your favorite color...yeah. :-)

-Headbands? Funky colored and patterned headbands...with ribbons...idk.

-How about Funky socks? Ha ha. I don't think you said anything about socks...my school even has rules about socks....grr....

That's what I can think of, hope it helps!

  • Henrico school board to iron out uniform policy - NBC12 News ...

By Laura Geller - bio | email

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Some but not all Henrico county children could have to wear uniforms to school. The school board will tackle the issue at a work session Thursday but Wednesday NBC12 got a look at a draft of the county's plan.

Increase student safety, bridge socio-economic differences and enhance the learning environment are just a few of the goals of Henrico's proposed school uniform plan. The plan sounds like a grand idea to Chet Wade, whose daughter is a freshman at Tucker High.

"We've always believed that school is about education and not about fashion," he explained.

The idea hasn't been without controversy as students and parents wonder exactly how a plan would be implemented and whether or not uniforms would become a requirement. School board member Lamont Bagby is trying to bridge the gap.

"I want to be responsible to the constituents that say that they do want mandatory school uniforms, but I also want to be responsible and respectful to the individuals that do not desire school uniforms," he said.
