Just doing home work and I need some pros and cons of wearing school uniforms.
I have looked at different websites but I can't find any good answers.
Can you help?
Pros:
- No competition on fashion. Students don't have to worry about having designer clothes etc.
- Everyone looks smart.
- People know what school you are from.
- Students are generally better behaved.
Cons:
- People have to attend uniform detentions for not looking smart enough.
- Students can't express individuality through what they wear.
- They worry about how to wear their uniform to make it look cool.

One con is that my cousin in Alabama has uniforms so that idea is taken and I dont wanna be a copy cat!
con- it doesnt let kids express themselves which can lead to people feeling depressed? idk i heard that on tv one time i think...

I do not agree with uniforms in public schools but I do believe in strict dress codes. Uniforms require those who might not be able to afford them pay out funds for them. uniforms do not stop cliques from forming, they do not keep people from being teased, and there is little proof that they assist in individual learning. I do agree though with leveling the field some by limiting the type of wardrobe a child wears to school. There will be competition regardless of what a child wears. In younger classes I could see potential for a uniform but by jr high or high school, it does not add to the learning experience.
In class I'm doing a debate on school uniforms I want to know what are the pros of having a school uniform are, also it would be nice if you left the name of your school and the area your school is in e.g. province or state and whether or not you have them at your school has uniforms. If you could also leave a stats page or article link to a site with opinions. thanks in advance!

Some of the pros and cons have been covered in other answers, however, there are some other considerations.
Having to wear a uniform removes, to a large extent, the ability to express yourself as an individual. And, I am of the opinion that the creation of cookie-cutter young people is not necessarily a good thing.
On the other hand the imposition of a uniform does take care of those people who would otherwise dress inappropriately. My 15 year old does not have to wear a uniform, but many of the schools in the area do. When we talked about it he was mortified at the concept of a uniform, until I pointed out to him that in far too many cases without uniforms the girls would come in with breast all but exposed and the boys with their P***ses exposed. Then began to understand that sometimes it is minority rule. And, in the quest for discipline that administrators face...
