What do you think of the boarding school in my book?
Everywhere with his PHONE. xD

So my story(the genre of fantasy) takes place in a Victorian-like era at a boarding school. Its pretty generic in some areas, but I just wanna see, as readers, what you guys think :)

The school itself is a long, light brown-bricked Victorian style building. Its nestled in front of the Bellowin Forest with gardens that lead into it. There's a small lake(more like large pond) in the shallow depths of the forest and some other winding rivers that go through.

The school goes from ages 8 to 16. The girls' dormitories are on the left wing of the school and the boys' on the far right(making it difficult to sneak out of bed and things although it is possible). Girls are expected to wear a corset and the school uniform dress. Boys wear their pressed shirts and vests, with an optional tie. The subjects taught for the students my story is about (they're 15 years old) are Literature, History, Medicine, Ettiquite, Calligraphy, Defense(they basically learn how to use swords and bows and arrows...I'm not sure what to call it haha), and another class that has to do with their own special abilities.

Those are the basic elements of the school...tell me what you like dislike, think is too generic, and anything you would want to have added if you were to attend this school :) Thanks!

I have worked as a volunteer at a boarding school that was run from the Victorian ages right through to the 70s. I can tell you, a school within that era would never be co-ed.

That time period definitely did not approve of teaching defense to young women. It is already a progressive idea that young women can be educated; no parent would also let them practice swordsmanship. That would be a step too far.
Maybe archery, but there would be no talk of the possibility of having to shoot another person in defense.

You can find ways to get around some of those things, but it would have to be really believable. I would begin by separating the boys' and girls' dorms into different buildings, and they would only get together for religious worship (on separate sides of the aisle.)

The place I worked at started as a home in the Victorian era. It was donated to the nuns who ran it. The home itself was not a Victorian, but a sort of yellow brick gothic. It was built before the Victorian era. Not all schools are like that, but maybe that's inspiring to you. It was formerly the home of a wealthy family, but it wasn't too sumptuous at all. The nuns added on and built a gymnasium, a chapel, etc.

If ghosts were real, how could it be possible for them to be wearing certain clothing or be male or female?
One Flag

Given that ghosts are supposedly astral beings with no physical form, how can they be described as 'a woman in a red dress', or 'a young boy in his school uniform'? It must be completely impossible for the spirit of a person to be wearing any clothing since their clothes never died and possibly were never even alive and are physical/material items anyway. It would also be impossible to tell male and female apart since the difference in the two sexes is in the actual genetic make-up of the brain and body, NOT in the spirit. This would also apply to age as it's the physical form that ages, not the spirit as proven by the witnesses who have seen 'ghosts' who have been described as, for example, 'a woman in her twenties from Victorian times'. This would mean she would of had to of aged 100+ years which may be possible in astral terms but never, ever happens.

Can any 'believers' please explain any of this to me?

Ghosts, or spirits are very real, i have seen enough of them, and although your question sounds silly, its very good.
A spirit is energy, they need no clothing, and no need to show if they are male or female to each other, why should they have to, They appear to people in clothing so they can be recognised, think about it. Spirit have no need to age, and time works a lot different in the spirit world they are not trapped like us, that's how a spirit can show themselves as 20, and died a hundred years ago.

hope this helps, there is far more, and its asking a lot to believe, and it is a case of seeing is believing, but it is worth it.
and they ARE NOT lost or trapped soles, they are mostly very happy.

love & Peace

VS Speech Day 09 Parade

I'm talking to a Foreign pen pal... thing is... she can't speak a word of English and I can't speak a word of French.
HELP!

Hello, it's nice to hear from you again.
How was your time in Spain?
I love the sound of your school, it seems... Interesting.
My school is massive. It's has alot of OLD classrooms with a Victorian design, it also has a swimming pool and a Theatre stage. It's an all boys... so that's a pity.

I only really like English and Physics, all the others i do well in, but i just don't enjoy.

Your teacher seems... once again, interesting. But my physics teacher is really kind and caring.

I love how you don't have to wear a uniform. You should relish that freedom. We're stuck with a black Cotton blazer with black trousers and a white shirt. How boring can you get?

I'd love to meet your friends one day, mine are all dull. They always have they're heads in the books.

I'm positive you can become a great weather girl one day. I know i'd watch you. But i don't know what plans i have for the future.. i'll just see what happens and hope for the best!

Hope to talk to you again,
yours sincerely

Victorian Squid: My Favorite. The Happiest Days of Our Lives.

Speaking of nostalgia, I was a total classic rock snob in high school. If the band hadn’t existed prior to 1970, I wasn’t interested. There were occasional cracks—an REM tape inherited from a friend, an abiding love for The Cars (who I still think were highly underrated, despite being popular)—but for the most part, I listened to The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, and Buddy Holly. I considered dance music the bane of my existence. Groove Is In the Heart was wildly popular during my senior year, and I wanted to stab it in its shiny, happy face. As a teenager with insufferable hippie pretensions, there was nothing I hated more than mindless happiness. I reveled in miserabilism and wanted my music to do the same. If it wasn’t whiny, depressive navel-gazing then it wasn’t about anything, maannnn . So fuck you guys coping through communal ritual and physical ecstasy, because I’m going to my room where I am a rock, I am an island....
