I don't know how to dress vintage, but I really like what the fashion is about.
I'm not following a label I just like the way vintage is portrayed, it suits my personality.
So please help me find ideas of how to dress vintage in school uniform.
What do I need?
What sort of vintage make-up, should a person with dark skin, be wearing?
1] hair style - flip, pageboy, French twist
2] hair accessories - headbands, bows, 'diamond' or 'pearl' clips
3] reto earrings - big pearls, large beads, fat bangles [ not all at once ]
4] legs - knee scoks, tights [ vs bear legs or hose ]
5] shoes - tie oxfords, loafers, patent leather strap shoes

I want to start out with a new style this coming school year, and I want to start going for a vintage-y look, but I also have to deal with a school uniform. I love looks from the 30s and 40s, and would adore channeling that sort of look in my style. My uniform consists of dress pants (in khaki, navy, or black) along with a polo in the spring and fall, and a button down oxford in the winter (tucked in, of course). We can't wear jackets, scarves, sunglasses, sneakers, canvas or patterned shoes, which I think is absolutely insane. Girls are also allowed knee-length or longer skirts.
I love clothes from sites like http://www.modcloth.com/ and http://www.unique-vintage.com/ I get a lot of my design inspiration from looking at websites like these (I love making my own clothes!)
So how can I make my school uniform more my style?
I would suggest jewelry or makeup. I think you could incorporate vintage style pieces into your jewelry collection like earrings, bracelets, and necklaces to make your style more unique. Also you could research some vintage makeup styles and draw inspiration from there and maybe try and recreate a pin up girl look. Good luck.

ok... sooooo my uniform is kinda ugly and extremely boring. The code is khaki or navy blue pants. we sometimes get away with brownish pants. white, or blue polos. Or grey, or blue sweatshirts. all have to be polos and sweatshirts that were designed by the school with the school logo.
their not too strict about shoes, layers, hair, makeup etc.
but we do have to have our shirt tucked in at all times.
and we cant wear hats, or wear scarves around our neck.
it suckssss
SO PLEASE HELP ME COME UP WITH SOME IDEADs TO MAKE MY UNIFORM CUTER OR VINTAGE!
thank you sooo much!!!!!! :]
*Well, you could get some dark blue skinny pants (not denim) or maybe charcoal gray skinnies or brown ones, even. Does it have to be polos? If not, then wear a flattering crew-neck tee and a dark blue or brown or white cardigan (find out if a cardigan is okay, instead of the sweatshirt).
*Try layering the polo over a long-sleeve tee
*Even if you can't do any of that, you can still get a unique look. It's all about accessories. try vintage-looking or funky jewelry- rings, bracelets, necklaces, or earrings to mix up your look. You said no hats, but you can still wear headbands, cool hairbands, and clips.
*Try converse, vans, unique ballet flats, and vintage high-tops for shoes.
*Get a cool indie haircut- something shaggy and unique. Trust me, this will really add personality to your look because even if you're stuck wearing the most plain-type clothes, a quirky haircut will really help you look unique.
*Experiment with makeup. Try out different colored eyeliners and shadows and be creative. Find what you like and go with it.
*It's a bummer that the dress code is so strict- maybe if you got a bunch of people to petition or something, you could get them to be a little looser with the rules. Good luck :)
okay my uniform is a blue polo shirt, black trousers, black cardi and black pumps and my bag is http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores /servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0& ;viewAllFlag=true&catalogId=19551&am p;storeId=12556&categoryId=169014&am p;parent_category_rn=130031&productI d=1285976&langId=-1 (BUT IT ALL BLACK NOT MULTI COLOUR!) HOW CAN I MAKE THAT look vintage/indie/unique please help! x
oh i also wear a flower ring and bangles (Y)
Go with what everyone else says and get a beanie. But most schools don't allow that. :( So I would just make your hair a tad sloppy or loose.
Add some necklaces that look like swooping sparrows and what not. I'd also get tons of rings, mainly chunky. A cool bright colored watch and some bracelets.

Cardigans are always cute and are pretty indie. So that is a plus.
You can add pin buttons to your backpack and cardigan!
Gosh! I want to give more links to everything but I am not on my real computer which has all my websites bookmarked! I hope I still helped other than that..
EDIT: I just remembered something else that would look wonderful. (well if you have skirts. I know when I had uniforms we had a choice of trousers or a jumper, but hopefully your school has this option!) Get some cool tights! I prefer tights with floral patterns and others plain white with nice designs:

I would also check out the items on http://lookbook.nu/ they have wonderful clothing ideas and if you find an idea you like and can somehow fit it in with your uniform dresscode.
I am looking for some true vintage high school uniforms. Does anyone have any idea where this might be possible?
Here are some prime possibilities:

How can I dress vintage in school uniform?
You could wear a scarf (perhaps lace?) tied in a bow for a hair band, brogues and t – bar pumps are vintage, a satchel would be a good idea for a school bag, a vintage hat, some long socks, chunky knit cardigans and v necks, badges from a chosen era, vintage leather watch, natural makeup maybe http://www.queensofvintage.com/how-to-guide-forties-style-make-up-on-darker-skin-tones ?
Hope this helps!!!
You could wear a black pencil skirt or a full 1950s circle skirt with a vintage blouse. You can also wear black vintage shoes. I’d imagine those would fit into your school dress code.
With bags, coats, umbrellas etc you have some more freedom. You can find some really cute vintage coats and jackets that are still smart so should be fine for school. Same with bags.
For hair, try curling your hair in pin curls a la Marilyn Monroe. This gives you a natural look but it’s still vintage. You can accessorise with a little flower hair clip.
