Accounting School?
Learning Principles (Day 79)

I am going to start applying to get my Bachelors Degree in Financial Accounting. I am going to a college simply because I previously attended the same school and will be able to apply 30-40 credits towards the Bachelors Degree. What is the difficulty level of the accounting classes? I have all A's and B's, but I am just a little nervous about how difficult those classes will be.

You actually have a lot of questions in there, but responding simply to your question regarding the difficulty of accounting classess I can offer the following (I am an accounting graduate, a CPA and have worked in accounting for almost 30 years <yikes>).

I don't think accounting is all that difficult but you need the following --
1) good to above average math skills (particularly in intermediate accounting and above where algebra can be helpful).
2) logical and able to apply concepts to practice. able to discern key elements and the variables that are important and those that aren't
3) a VERY good memory for detail
4) a strong interest in how business operations work
5) a good communicator. Especially able to take technical jargon and convert them to simple terms for nontechnical folks.

Good luck.

Is it possible to go to an accredited accounting school in Korea and then do accounting in the US?
Effective Payroll Management Seminar_03-20-09

I graduated already, and unfornately, the only thing related to accounting is a Management minor with ONE financial accounting class. I'm interested in accounting, but I want to go to school in Korea. Is it possible to go to a US accredited accounting graduate school in Korea? What schools are they and how can I check to see if it really is accredited?

Should I do online classes instead? Get experience first?
or is it possible to get a business degree to qualify for the courses i need to become an accountant?

I completed 90 units as accounting major in Korea and graduated in USA with BS degree in finance. In order to be qualified for AICAP, I requested a credential evaluation service for foreign education as directed by California Board of Accountancy and got credited for all the accounting classes I took in Korea so I could sit for AICPA exam.

You can probably contact this: http://www.ierf.org/, where I requested the evaluation service.

Can I make money in Accounting? Is U of I a good school to attend?
I hate you Mr Accounting Professor...

I want to major in accounting when I go to college (currently going to be a senior in H.S.) Is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign a great accounting school? What are the best paid jobs that deal with Accounting? Is following the management side of an accounting firm a good choice? Also, what is needed to become the CEO of an Accounting Firm? and last, if you are a person that works in an accounting firm, can I keep in touch with you regarding your job and accounting?
SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS BUT I WANT TO BE CERTAIN THAT MAJORING IN ACCOUNTING IS MY BEST OPTION THANKS.

Not an accountant, but my dad is. Accounting is a great field. If I were more math orientated I would have picked this myself. With a bachelor's degree and no experience, you can make 50k- you can't say that for most any other field. He is a licensed CPA and CEO for a consulting company he started himself. He started his career by working for the government. His experience there helped him start his own company, which helps companies prepare for government audits.

Anyway, the point of my story is gain some critical experience throughout college and after graduation. You can be hired as bookkeeper with some accounting classes, but no degree. Then return for either an MBA or a masters in accountancy after a couple of years. Either of the two is required to sit for the CPA exam now, which you need to be high up in most accounting firms or start your own firm. The CPA exam is very tough- most don't pass it on their first try.

I'm not familiar with U of I, so I can't help you there. Government jobs have reasonable pay, but have awesome benefits- flex days (extra floating days off), etc.

I have been accepted into Suffolk U and Temple U for accounting. Which school has the better business program?
Holiday and Summer Breaks

I am curious as to what you think (yahoo that is); is the better school for business when it comes to accounting. I have narrowed down my choices to Temple University in Philadelphia and Suffolk University in Boston. Any insight you could give would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Congratulations!

  • Students say bank in school is a good investment

CHAMBERSBURG, PA.— Looking for real-world experience, Chambersburg Area Senior High School accounting students are trying to open a bank branch next to their cafeteria.

Caleb Filson, a junior, and Jamie Goetz, a senior, talked to the Chambersburg Area School Board last week about the plan developed by their Accounting II and III class. They shared statistics about teenagers’ attitudes toward finances and knowledge about savings.

A “request for proposals” will seek financial institutions that want to open in the high school.

Superintendent Joseph Padasak said he believes a local bank will be interested and said several have curriculums for youths.

Caleb said the plan is to start the branch with one or two full-time bank employees. Those employees would train teenagers for jobs through the cooperative program for students who work and attend school. The youths would be supervised by a full-time bank employee.

“It’d fit in with their schedule for the co-op program,” Jamie said.

Careers in Business Management « Accounting School Admissions ...

Business as a term has been in existence since a long time. In recent times, it has virtually exploded giving rise to numerous jobs. It has become more structured with specializations emerging in business management wherein students can focus their energies, passions and innate talents to generate positive outcomes. Of course, the rewards in choosing specialized careers in business management are self explanatory since they provide rewarding opportunities and careers. Examples of business management specializations are customer service, office management, operations management and eCommerce.

Many institutions offer business management programs through campus and online modes. Online programs are especially convenient for working staff since they can balance study and work commitments. These programs span Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees along with certifications and diplomas. The Master of Business Administration is one such popular program wherein students can specialize in the streams of their liking and aptitude. The duration of the courses also varies based on the type of program.  A few significant classes that are discussed in these programs are organizational behavior, economics, quality and productivity management and business ethics.
