The Bishop Strachan School Toronto, ON a Catholic School?

Can you tell me some interesting facts about the school?

It's based in the Anglican faith, but it's not necessary to be a practising Anglican to attend the school.

Havergal College or Bishop Strachan School(BSS) ?

I live in Hong Kong and I'm thinking about going to boarding school in Ontario. I've heard that Havergal, BSS and Branksome are all really good schools but I ruled out Branksome as I'd rather not do IB. So basically, which school would you say is better? Not just in terms of academics but maybe the amount of extra-curriculars or facilities. So yeah, anything would be helpful :)

Also, does anyone know how hard it is to get into these schools?
Thanks so much in advance!

Well, I go to Havergal and I think it's a fabulous school, aside from our cheesy new 'theme song' , The Joy of Being Girl. Try to ignore that song :)

Havergal has great academics, as well as lots of athletic and art programs/teams. There is a school play for both middle and upper school, plus one act and docudrama plays. There are also a lot of exchange and excursion opportunities.

Havergal's facilities are INCREDIBLE! We have a lovely fitness center and olympic sized pool. There are two gyms; one even has a rock wall! The classrooms are all large and airy, and most have smart boards. The teachers are AMAZING! Especially Dr Reinink the English Teacher, Miss Morris the Drama Teacher, and Miss O'Rourke the math teacher. They're my personal favorites :)

I would definitely reccomend Havergal over BSS. I got into BSS as well, but it just didn't seem as friendly and welcoming as havergal.

Both schools are equally hard to get into, but if your english is good (You would need to take an ESL test) and your marks and 'character' are good, you'd probably get in. But apply for both; just to be safe. But if you get into them both, Pick Havergal !!!!!!

-Good Luck!

The questions that you ask should be directed to the school, not to someone who does not know or who may give you outdated or inaccutate answers.

Toronto private schools? PLEASE help?

Hello all, I'm on my daughter's account. We are moving to Toronto soon, and i have two daughters, and i was wondering which private school to send them too?

1. Branksome Hall
2. Havergal College
3. Bishop Strachan School

I really like the looks for all three, but i was just wondering which ones Toronto-nians prefer. Thanks!

Bishop Strachan (pronounced Strawn) is impeccable. Havergal has a good rep too but I am unfamiliar with Branksome.

You won't be sorry to choose Strachan, IF you can get them in!

Should I attend Phillip Exeter Academy/Phillip Andover for my senior year?

I currently live in Toronto Ontario. I not getting full academic support from my current public school. The teachers aren't very helpful or supportive, the teams aren't amazing, the classes sizes are 30+ and the overall school atmosphere could be better. I have applied to a top private schools in the Toronto area such as The Bishop Strachan School and Appleby College. However, I aspire on going to the U.S to attend a top college such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc. Would it be better to attend a school such as Phillip Exeter Academy or Phillip Andover for my senior year? I know if I put my mind to it I can pull of adjusting to the school. I am just scared of not being able to adjust to the school and screwing up my last year in high school. Will it be very hard to adjust to a new school, boarding life, a new town? Will it affect getting into college? Should I attend a boarding school in Toronto (closer to me) or go ahead and attend Phillip Exeter/Andover to better my educational experience and get into a top American university. Please provide me with further information and/or alternative schools if possible. Thanks!

If you think you can get in, the don't hesitate to apply. Fear of not adjusting should be the last thing to hold you back.

Attending Exeter, or Andover, would be great for your education. Although you wouldn't benefit as much as a four-year student, you would have very interesting classes. As a student, you would also have access to very well informed and effective college counseling.

These schools offer wonderful chances, which you would have trouble finding anywhere else. Most courses are college level by 11th grade. Extra-curriculars ar Exeter in particular include various sports, art, music, and many clubs. The Exeter Debate Team (Daniel Webster Debate Team) is sending a representative to the World Championships this year, and is one of the best.

Don't be afraid of adjusting - the school makes sure the transition is smooth. Exeter has smaller dorm houses for new 11th and 12th graders, and all the students are extremely welcoming.

Give it a go!

Edit:
Also, you should know that you have VERY little time to apply, if you choose to do so. You need to take the SSAT test, which you need to register for in advance. You also need to write three essays (approximately) per school, fill out an application, and schedule an interview. The deadline for the test and application is January 15th. Good Luck!
