I am thinking about applying for private high school next year ( I go to private middle school) and I really like one that is about a half-hour from my house. If I got into the school I would want to board but my parents say that I couldn't board until the last two years of high school. The majority of the kids board at this school, and they share dorms and have weekend activities. Would I not make friends if I didn't board? Would I be left out?
What do you think? Should I go anyways?
You will be fine. Friendships bond between the boarders and the day students. There were even students that went from day to boarding and boarding to day only.
Do you live far from the school? Is there anything preventing you from participating in some of the weekend activities even as a day student? At my school day students were allowed short term boarding when parents would be out of town. Maybe that could be an option once in a while.
The one thing you should do is get involved in sports and clubs. That extends your day on campus and allows you time to create stronger bonds with the boarding students.
Good luck, have fun. My boarding school experience was something I would not trade and 25 years later those girls are still some of my closest friends.
A five-minute local political video goes awry when the reality of the man invades his public persona.
I live in a Middle Eastern country that rarely adopts a school system where a school board of directors is present.Usually only the principal has all the power and capability in a school's tasks and abilities.I'm researching about how a school with a board of directors work and how it differs, how many people it is ade of, and how tasks are divided...etc
Thanks!
Note: links would be appreciated!
In the US, a school board might be appointed by another elected political body (such as a city council) or it might be directly elected by the public at large. There might be 5-10 members on the school board. The school board's function is usually to report to the city council on the quality of the schools and to set school policy. The extent to which principals and the superintendent of schools "report" to the school board can vary. Sometimes the school board has a lot of power, other times they are strictly advisory. A good place to start would be to have a body of about 5 people appointed by the local governance that reports back in an advisory capacity.
My brother whom is 24 years old, is running for our city's school board. Based on anyone who has run for this office, what are the keys to win this spot on the school board? What does he need to do to win it all? There are 2 spots open, 2 incumbents, 2 challengers, what is the most effective stragegy to win?
The best strategy is to make his age a non-issue. Most people will see only that he is much younger than most school board members, and they will judge him as incompetent.
He must overcome this pre-conception to win. Tell him to use his age to his advantage by promoting that he is "more in tune with the younger generation" because of his age and he will therefore be able to do the best job.
A local school board member voted against placing a school levy on the ballot and then actively campaigned against it. Does he have a duty to publicly support the school distict and the school board of which he is a member?
No. He does have a duty to act in the best interest of his constituents.
The Texas School Board is dominated by anti-science Fundamentalist Christians who are opposed to teaching evolution and push for christian beliefs in public schools. Yet, my entire life I've heard that they have a great influence over what other schools districts adopt.
They HAVE had... but that is because it was hard for other companies to compete.
The simple fact is that there will now be a market for "non-Texasfied" History books.
The rest of the country will simply say "Screw em... we ain't teaching this shi4", and buy their books from a different publisher.

Orleans Parish School Board Employees File Lawsuit - New Orleans ...
NEW ORLEANS -- A group of Orleans Parish School Board employees have filed a lawsuit claiming they were unlawfully terminated from their job positions following Hurricane Katrina.
The plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages for lost wages and emotional distress, which they claim to have suffered as a direct result of losing their jobs. The class action suit names the OPSB, the State of Louisiana, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Recovery School District as defendants. The OPSB and defendants denied the allegations and assert that, at all times, their actions and business practices have been lawful and appropriate. The court has not ruled on the merits of the claims.News
