Dermatology School

I am looking for a dermatology school in san diego and cant find it

Dermatology is a specialization undertaken within the medical field, ie. you have to have a college degree and medical degree before you can begin training to be a dermatologist. One would then seek a residency program within a university medical center or teaching hospital to complete his/her training as a dermatologist.

Perhaps you are thinking of schools that train estheticians? These are individuals who do chemical peals, facials, laser hair removal and the like, often working with a dermatologist. If you just try searching on Yahoo or Google for "esthetician school san diego" there are a number of them that come up.

I have looked all over and I really would like to get certified to give Botox. I can't seem to find a dermatology school anywhere.

I'm not sure it's legal to get it anywhere but from a dermatologist. That's a doctor, who had to have gone to med school. Might have had to be board certified as a dermatologist. Not sure. I briefly looked at Botox's website, and from that, it seems to also suggest you have to get it from a doctor only.

This isn't like dyeing your hair. This stuff is a milder version of the poison countries used to use as bio warfare to kill people.

I am planning on being a dermatololigist and live near richmond. I wanted to start a family here but need to still go to med school. Does anyone know if VCU has a derpartment of dermatology where they teach dermatology? Thanks in advance.

VCU does certainly have a School (Department) of Dermatology.

Im looking forward to becoming a dermatologist one day. I have no idea on any good medical schools or colleges. Is the american academy for dermatology a medical school?

No, it's a professional organization. Many such organizations use the word "academy" in their names.

As for medical school, you will have to complete your MD before you can take a hospital residency and start specializing in dermatology. There are many fine medical schools in this country, so just start researching them.

You do know that before going to med school, you'll have to spend 4 years in college earning a bachelor's degree and taking all of the premed courses? You can't study medicine or any of the specialties, like dermatology, on the undergraduate level in the U.S.

i lot of people it has a good reputation. it seems like a fun up beat school but is it good for any of those careers?

you do not major in dermatology

You get an undergrad in anything with a pre med concentration for your pre reqs.
Take the mcats
apply to med school
get accepted in med school
Spend 4 years in med school (2 years of classwork and 2 years rotating through all of the specialties).
Then you interview at various residency programs in dermatology.
Then you go where you are matched.
You spend about 4 years in your residency in derm and then 2 years in a fellowship

Derm is a very competitive. To give you a perspective. At the local med school residency. There are 5 first year residents in derm, over 50 in peds, surgery, internal med and psy. Many of the derm residents are also PhD as well.
