Dog Obedience School

I nned a good dog obeidence school for my dog. And i need it at an offordable price. less that 100 dollars?

Check online for your local AKC (American Kennel Club). They give excellent lessons and are normally much cheaper than all the private schools. Anyone can attend. Your dog doesn't have to be any specific pedigree but must have all shots up to date.

I have attended the one where I live twice with two different dogs. They were great. They also gave one dog individual attention for no extra charge to correct a particular problem. I highly recommend them. I paid $60 for a 6 week class that met for one hour each week and we were given written lessons to read and do at home in between.

My female westie is aggressive towards my male westie (both 10 months old) and i think this is because she's jealous even though they are both treated equally. Do you know which school/ academy is good for this? (Ottawa, Ontario)

Some agility clubs provide a variety of training classes (from obedience to agility, beginner to competitive levels, even one on one classes to correct behaviour)

I live in Japan and am looking for somewhere to take my dog or someone who can come to the home. I like on Yokota AB, so somewhere near that area. I would prefer that they speak English, but necessary.

Try calling your local dog control and asking them, they will know of a reputable one in your area. If not, you could also try some dog behaviour books to help you out.

My 2 year old dog never got the chance to go to obedience school and so he is poorly socialized and lacks proper behavior. I adopted him from shelter last month. But i know he was never given any training before.

I want to send my dog to obedience school, but i heard that only pups are sent there. If my dog also joins the pups at obedience school, will there be any problem?

You don't SEND dogs to obedience classes, you TAKE them -- a huge percentage of the training that goes on goes on to the PERSON, not the dog. Dogs learn fast - people take forever.

You can TAKE your 2 year old dog to a good, motivational obedience class and learn how to interact and train him and hope he can be better socialized. Sending him, there will be no telling what will happen TO him and it won't teach you anything so the dog will quickly revert to the previous bad behaviors.

add: Dog parks are a HORRIBLE idea -- you will simply be an untrained person with an out of control, unsocialized, fearful-aggressive dog amongst others with very little or no knowledge as well...

I have replanted some of my bulb plants 3-5 times! My hens & chicks have been replanted 3 times. Luckily he hasn't eaten them just pulls them up and swings them around. He has only totally destroyed 2-3 but it can't be good for them & it is very frustrating for me & my husband. I love my puppy very much but I cannot tolerate this type of behavior. He recently tore up a box of Kleenex off the coffee table while we were at work. So I can see if we don't put a stop to this it will get worse. Obedience school is the only thing I can think of doing. Will it help? I know he is going thru the terrible two stage but he is already 130 lbs so we need to control him now before he gets even bigger. HELP!

You have a little ways to go :) My mastiff is 7 and barely moves! They are VERY calm for puppies. Mine is 230 lbs know and doesn't chew or anything like that.

They go through a rebellious period around 18 - 24 months when they will test your patience much more than now. Obedience training will make him obedient when you TELL him something...not so much when you aren't around. That would be reasoning..and a pup has none of that :)

Even now..at 7 yrs..the one thing my dog CAN'T resist..is getting into the garbage if left to his own devices. The tossing and chewing will be gone soon enough. They are very, very, very, very mellow animals. Had this been a German Shepherd pup? Your shoes would be torn up, the garbage knocked over...I even know of one couple who put their Shepherd into the bathroom when they left to go to the movies and she ATE through the drywall!

Also...they aren't the brightest dogs in the world. It takes them a while to understand what is expected of them and even longer to actually OBEY. For now? Put up what you don't want chewed (or behind a closed door) when you aren't around. When you ARE around..make sure to let him know it's a NO thing. Don't hit the dog to discipline him (not even the cuff under the jaw thing)...but be firm. Their feelings get hurt quickly if the person they're most attached to tells them they're bad and refuses to give out any attention (or treats).
