What do you think of the plan to open a Saudi only English language school in Dublin?

See: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/ saudi-language-school-plan-sparks-ghetto -row-2071907.html and http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/week end/2009/1212/1224260570995.html

I don't like the idea, integration not exclusivity and segregation is what is needed.
Peediddy: Eh, hello, did you even read the articles? It is not just for ANY foreigner, it is for a SPECIFIC nationality and a SPECIFIC religious group - and it isn't for just guys as you said it is supposed to also be for females (who by the way will be accompnied by a family member - of course being female they can't be trusted to be alone seems to be the attitude) Wonder if there is some weird reason why the Saudis couldn't gone to any one of the multiple of English language schools already in existance? Wonder if Irish women would be able to enter the college or it's enviorns without putting on a hijab or a burkha? It's a bad, bad idea.
Joe: You forgot to mention that it is not just any private langauge school, it is a school solely for one nationality and one religious group. We are supposed to be moving away from denominationalism yet here that is exactly what we have. And I still really do wonder whether the Irish people teaching there - as you suggest - will be free to have their heads uncovered if they are female? If not I'd view it as a challenge to our western concept of a secular liberal democracy.

I agree. Integration is so much better.

What are the best international schools of English in London and Dublin?

I'd like to learn English in London or Dublin and wanted to know from you, native speakers, and then look for an agency here in Brazil.
Thank you.
MikeInRI, good point. I'd like to learn English well and then find a vocational course to be a translator or a librarian, if there is and if I can pay for that. I could do it here, but if I could spend some time away from my house, I'd like to.

Well i thought this was very good for my son,

I am looking for English classes in Dublin, Ireland for my Dad.?

Can anyone recommend short term classes (4-6 weeks) recommendable for his age group? (55+)
I know of several schools that teach English, but they are mostly geared at students and young people.
Thanks!

You won't find many .... he could go the homestay route, that is, he stays with a family and learns with them, and perhaps has a class with one the parents for one hour a day, to talk about what he's learned. For your Dad, this might be a good option. Total immersion.

Can someone tell me how to go about becoming an english teacher in Germany( secondary teaching (high school))?

Im in my last year of school in Ireladn and I speak native english, a bit of Irish and a lot of French and fluent German (nearly) I plan to do a four years course i German and French in dublin City University and then this will give me a BA degee in German and french and will also qualify me to become an interpreter or translator.
Who earns more? and English teacher in Germany or a translator/ interpreter working in germany??? please help. i know i should do what i enjoy, but i'd enjoy both equally... plz help !!!!!!! dont 4get to tell me about the teacher thing, i know how to be an interpreter....
thanks so much
ps would any government agencies in germany require interpreters or maybe big companies like Lufthansa??/

Teacher: You need to attend a university, receive all your credits, pass the exams, do an internship and then you will student teach for 2 years as what they call a Dozent. The BIG plus of being a high school teacher is that you will be a government employee and will get tenure - this is a huge reason why a lot of Germans wish to become a teacher: job security. You will have to teach two subjects - so something else besides English. I do not know how much you will make - it depends on which German state you will teach in, but you will get good benefits. • How NOT To Learn Grammar – ULearn Dublin English School ...

A Rose By Any Other Name

If you want me to point to one specific action that I think wastes more time in language learning than any other it would have to be the following:

Students asking the names of all the grammar structures.

It’s fruitless.  What sense is there in focusing on the names if you don’t know how to use them and express yourself?  These names, or labels, have no meaning outside of the context in which they are used. Strangely there are many English courses Dublin use textbooks and course manuals that focus on exactly this type of work. So, when you get nervous, or feel anxious when confronted with tough sounding terms like

    “FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS”

looming large over your next lesson, just relax.  It’s just a label.  The name is not important – the function is what matters.  And there are many more students out there who know the name than know how to use it. C. (He still lives in Dublin)

Here we have a short sentence relating the length of time John has been living in Ireland. We might encounter this sentence in class where the grammar focus is the PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS. However, rather than stressing over the idea of the Present Perfect Continuous, consider how, from the context (given in the bracketed clauses A & C) we can determine the use of the following combination of words: The form can be learned easily enough, but it is the application of the grammar point that is most important. Try changing sentence A and C. Write one sentence about something that you did (and are still doing today). Write a second sentence about it nowadays. Then combine the information into one sentence. For example, can you complete sentence B?
