Ground School

I am gonna do ground school and was wondering how long it will take to complete and entire ground school course?

Ground school will cost approximately $600US is this a good price?

Taught a private pilot ground school at a local community college a few times. The school schedules 60 hours, but I usually spent 80 hours before being comfortable completely covering the course and signing off the students to take the "written" test.
Their cost is only $70 plus book and supply's . This usually averages $100+ . (We use Gleim Text, Test prep, E6b,etc)

Also, what knowledge is required for the written examination ? Is it ALL covered in Ground School?

Expect to pay between $2 and $10,000. It really depends on where you live. If you live in or near a city, alot more expensive than if you live in the country. But, the ground school only prepares you to take the knowledge test. If you wanted to save alot of money, buy all the books/CDs and study yourself. If you know any pilots, talk to them, they're alot of help or you can go on message boards (or on here) if you're having trouble with anything and someone can help you.

i know there are introductory flights. i am a little confused about where ground school actually gets you.

You must have an endorsement from you instructor in your log book before you can apply to take the written exam or the flight check ride. The oral exam is part of the check ride.

But you really shouldn't go through ground school before beginning flight instruction. Many of the concepts you will cover in ground school will be hard to understand if you have not done it yourself in a real airplane.

Ground school is offered as part of the curriculum of many flight schools where the paper instruction and the flight experience are intermixed. This is the best way. You can also find a certified ground school at many community colleges and technical schools. Finally, your instructor (or AN instructor) can give you the ground instruction you need.

But most people start their actual flight instruction first, before sitting in the classroom.

So you have many options. Go to the airport/flight school of your choice, and ask the instructor you start flying with. That person will be able to advise you as to the best process in your local area.

I live near Van Nuys Airport in Southern California. I was wondering if there are certian schools that offer the ground school separatly.

Contact your local flight school,and ask them about ground school,but if you are getting flight time with one instructor and could quite possibly create a conflict,if the two instructors have different theories of instructing

I've finally started helicopter pilot's lessons and my instructor informed me that I will need to be 50% of the way through the ground school before we go on our dual cross country. What is a good online course for this?

I don't think there are any on-line courses. You either need to complete ground school with your instructor or complete a written exam test book (or CD)

You can go many places on-line to find these things, but there's no on-line course I know of.

You should be completing ground school along with your flight training, it makes the flying that much clearer.
