I'm a 10th grader who has played on the Freshman and VJ teams and will move to Varsity in my Junior year however I have not received any letters from colleges so I am considering using a service to circulate my tape and get my name out. It this a wise investment or it this something that I can either do myself as the services charge between 1 - 2k
Any advice from those experienced in the recruiting process would be helpful.
OK take it from a football coach. It is not worth it. If you are good enough and if you have a Varsity coach doing his job then he will help you. If you ever get a chance to talk to a kid that got recruited ask them how much was the Varsity coach evolved. Now, there are some coaches that dont do it so in that case do it your self. Make sure you have game tape to cut up and send it every where all 120 D1/FBS schools and every other school all the way down to Jr college. That is all most of these guys do and a lot of them are scams.

I am going into my sophomore year in high school. I want to know how do college football scouts and coaches put the amount of "stars" you are. (1-5 star recruit.) I want to know how many yards touchdowns tackles etc. do you need to be "starred". Also I want to know how to get noticed by coaches. My division isn't a good one since I go to a small school with 1000 students. But we are good enough to beat the average teams in the better divisions with 2000 students. Because of this scouts and college coaches don't really know about our school. I will going to the Al Golden Temple University Football Camp in 2009, but I want to know about any other camps particularly in New Jersey that are good to attend.

Hello need some ideas I played eight years in the NFL an I love football an I want to help kids make there dreams come true. Me an a friend need some ideas. How we can start are own business like rival.com an scout.com. but from a more personal level. One of the ideas was providing information to the parents on what to execpt from colleges, making highlight fillms for the kids. Basicaly helping kid's get the shine they need to make there dreams come true. Can u help.
As far as exposure for young kids I think it will be hard to set up an operation to compete nationally with the likes of rivals.com. Strategically I think your best bet may be to focus locally in your city or state.
Instead of competing w/ rivals.com which is really a tool for colleges to locate the players they need. Maybe try to have a site that helps kids find the school that best fits them. You could provided detailed analysis on each individual coach's coaching style, the schools facilities, fan base, potential to make it to the NFL etc. I think some kids get down if they don't get into their top school like USC or Florida, but if you could show them how many good programs are out there that could lead to the NFL they may keep up the fight. I just graduated a Division 1 school and although we are usually not nationally know if kids come in and prove themselves they will have their shot in the NFL. Daunte Culpepper and Asante Samules are probably our most well know, coming out of UCF which know one really knows about.
On another note, since your in the jersey business as well do you know where to find the black and Grey Skins jerseys... I see people with them but I can never find them?
Hail to the Redskins!
You could also make it free unlike rivals which only gives you a snippet of what you want, then they make you pay.
when do most colleges start contacting high school players (like tenth or eleventh grade?)

Coach Schuman's High School Football Recruiting Blog: Parents, how ...
Now, "what about a scholarship," You may ask. Well what about it? Let's think about this: from D-1 to D-III, there are numerous opportunities to gain a scholarship. We all dream of playing D-1 football and getting a college scholarship there, but there are also numerous opportunities to get academic scholarships (because you are smart and play football), financial aid and much much more. So you can have a scholarship at a D-III level as well as the top flight D-1 scholarship opportunities. How much is that worth? Well the average college now costs around $40,000 per year, and the average student takes five years to complete school. Do the math. That's $200, 000. People ask me all the time why they should go to combines and get showcased; well it is actually very simple. This is something even your high school coach may not realize. Football combines are the key to getting early recruiting exposure, period, and the National Underclassmen Combine is the #1 combine in the...
