I'm a freshman going into high school and i don't really know what to get besides pencils and paper.
At school each of your teachers will tell you specific things that you need. However, I can give you general guidelines.
You will probably need a backpack or tote bag. I suggest a backpack if you are going to have a lot of books or binders to carry home.
A folder & notebook for each class. Some teachers require binders though, so you'll have to wait to hear specifics.
Obviously pens & pencils. Make sure you have blue & black ink pens because if your school does in-class essays, you will need those.
Math supplies (calculator, ruler, protractor, etc.). Oh, and unlike the other person said, you probably don't need a * special * calculator (aka a graphing calculator) until junior year or you take algebra 2. my school recommended it for algebra one, however the teachers provided them when necessary. Until then, I suggest just having a scientific calculator which I assume you have from middle school.
If you want, get post it notes for marking your spot in books. Get index cards for reviewing. Get highlighters for jazzing up your notes. And get loose-leaf paper if you're using a binder.
So, goodluckk in highschool my friend!

ok next year is my freshman year at capital high school in charleston wv and i need the supply list but all i can find is ones for elementary schools where can i get one for my high school?
NOTE: it is not on the capital high website or board of education website
If it is like my school, teachers wait until the first day to give you your list of stuff you need
On the first day just take a pen/pencil, notebook paper and folders, teachers give you about a week before they make you get the supplies.
I got a letter with a simple list of my classes, I'm going into freshman year. The letter also said that we wont be getting our specific schedules until the first day of school. So, does high school send out a school supply list during the summer? Thankss
BASICS
- No. 2 pencils
- Mechanical pencils
- Colored pencils
- Pencil sharpener (hand-held with a top to collect shavings)
- A large pink eraser
- Ballpoint pens (Get a few red ink ones too, because some teachers have students do peer editing.)
- Highlighters
- Spiral-bound or composition notebooks
- Loose-leaf notebook paper (Teachers can be picky about paper. Some middle schools ask that students use the college-ruled variety.)
- A ruler with English and metric measurements
ORGANIZATIONAL HELPERS
- Several three-ring binders (Some teachers require that a binder be used exclusively for their class.)
- A three-hole punch (a regular one or one that fits in a three-ring binder)
- A pencil case that fits in a binder
- Binder dividers (The kinds with pockets are good for loose papers.)
- Pocket folders
- Folders that fit in binders
- A small notebook to record assignments
- A calendar for scheduling assignments
- A sturdy, supportive backpack (Some schools do not permit rolling backpacks because of space considerations, so check with your school before considering this option.)
- Two combination locks (If the school lockers do not have built-in locks, your child might need one for the hallway and one for the gym.)
STUDY AIDS
- Index cards, ruled and unruled (These are great for making flash cards.)
- Highlighters
- A calculator (Check with the math teacher first before investing in an expensive one. Graphing calculators, for example, are required in many high school math classes. Teachers advise parents not to buy a calculator with more functions than students will use.)
- A protractor

If you attend the open house before school opens you can get a copy of your schedule & when you visit each teacher, they'll give you a copy of their curriculum along with a list of school supplies they expect you to have, or that you'll eventually need for their class.
Unlike elementary & middle school you don't get just one big list of school supplies to shop for. In high school each class is different & each teacher will have their own list of school supplies. If you don't happen to make it to open house, then you'll of course get the list on your first day of school.
& don't panic about buying everything on the list apart from the most basic: paper, pens/pencils, notebook/binder, TI-83 calculator. I've found that often teachers will include other stuff that you won't get around to using. But your teacher will go over the list with you & if it's something really important then your teacher will tell you what things those are.

Depending on how many of classes you have, I have 4 so 4 binders. Or one big one. I have a folder to put homework and forms in so I don’t have to lug binders everywhere. Pencil case with pens/pencils..erasers..etc.. Markers and/or colored pencils if you have art or geography or something with coloring. For your locker just get whatever you want. You might need a usb. They never gave me a list either.
Pencils, pens, erasers, ruler, 4 or 5 three ring binders, a set of dividers for every binder, maybe two or three folders, a spiral notebook, a composition notebook, a calculator(usually a graphing calculator), index cards, colored pencils/markers/oil pastels(for art classes if you are taking one), highlighters, two gigabyte flash drive, a few packs of notebook paper, graph paper, protractor, compass, dictionary, thesaurus and a pencil pouch. That’s what I got anyway.
