Is there any reliable website that can tell me how much does a new high school teacher earn in salary/wages in either the state of Kansas or Illinois?
I found some things, but it seems to pay okay:
A high school teacher's salary starts around $29000 a year and will go up depending on education, bilingual teaching and qualifications in ...
I am a teacher in a high school, working for 15 years, not married, no children. I want to know how much salary does a teacher like me get in your country ( in Euro). I get about 1400 Euro.
It varies from state and localities. pick a location in the US and go to salary.com for teacher and amount experience and it will give you amount in $.
What is the average salary for a starting high school teacher in the Maryland/Pennsylvania area? Also, how does one find a way to survive on such low income?
Both answers depend on the district that you live/teach in. In Maryland, it is MUCH more expensive to live (housing rates are crazy). The starting salary depends on which county you teach in, since schools are organized by county in MD. Check the different county web sites for info. The two I know right off the top of my head are Baltimore County (www.bcps.org) and Harford County (www.hcps.org). I can tell you that first year teachers salaries in Harford County are somewhere around $40,000.
In Pennsylvania, it's a little bit different. The schools are organized by district instead of state. As such, there are A LOT more little districts in PA. It's much cheaper to live for the most part, particularly compared to MD. I also hear that it's much more difficult to get a job in PA. The PA teachers unions tend to be hard liners and aren't afraid to strike, so they usually make more money than MD, while having a lower cost of living (striking is unheard of in MD. The closest we come to it is a "work to the letter of the contract" strike).
If money is a major concern, try to get into PA. That said, if your certification is outside of the big three (Math, Science, Special Education), then you should also try MD, as it is much easier to get a job.
I'm currently in college to become a high school German teacher. I'm curious to know what they make within a year.
It varies GREATLY depending on the state you are in. Bi-Lingual teachers typically make more than the average. It also depends on how many organizations you head up (PTA, etc). A very rough guess is $30k-$45k depending on the city.
Bwlow is a great website where you can select your job and enter a zip code and it will show you jobs and their salaries. Good luck!

I am in college, and education is an option for me. if i were to teach what subject areas bring in the most money. i heard math and science do compared to english or history. if so why?? and any websites that can prove this?
Your subject does not change your salary. Your salary is changed by location, state, extra activities such as coaching, counselor, administrator, librarian -- that type of thing. You should major in the area you prefer and then decide what you want to do for a master's degree.
Using Teacher Salary Scale to Evaluate a Job Offer
A struggling or recovering economy is a scary place for many new college graduates looking for work in a now highly competitive market. The public school systems are not exempt from this struggle and in fact there is an added complicating factor for public school systems in that many, including Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland, are facing increasing budget deficits and more budget cuts.
Understanding the Teacher Pay ScaleDuring the application and interview process, new teacher candidates should review the school districts’ salary scale. School districts pay teachers on a scale based on number of years experience and amount of education. So for example, a first year teacher with a Bachelor’s degree would start on step one of the Bachelor’s degree scale. Three years later, the same teacher would be on step three. If during those three years, the teacher were to get a master’s degree, she would be on step three of the Master’s degree scale – sliding over to the correct level of education but staying at the correct step based on years of experience.
