Is College of the Holy Cross considered a prestigious school?

I am hearing more and more about friends of friends going off to Holy Cross instead of Boston College. I think the only thing I have heard about regarding Holy Cross was Bob Cousy. Other than that I would like some info on it.
What is the overall opinion of the school? Is it a prestigious institution?


Yes -- it is an excellent school. US News ranks it #33 in the country.

    LAFLIN - The Diocese of Scranton is attempting to stabilize its school system - and stave off additional school closings - with a plan that includes tuition hikes, increased advertising and emphasis on Catholic values.

    There will be no school closings for this school year, but closings have not been ruled out for 2011-12, Bishop Joseph C. Bambera said.

    He presented the diocese's plan Thursday night during a meeting with parents, teachers, administrators and other church officials at St. Maria Goretti Parish Center in Laflin. The diocese is concentrating on the two largest school systems - Holy Cross in Lackawanna and Bradford counties and Holy Redeemer in Luzerne County.

    "Essentially we gathered tonight to address some concerns about our school system and to place in perspective some of the needs that we have so we can move forward into the future in a positive way," Bishop Bambera said during a press conference following the meeting. "Everybody always looks at a gathering like this as a moment of downsizing, a moment of death, but that's not what this has been about at all tonight. … Our purpose in gathering together tonight, first and foremost, is to tell everybody that Catholic schools are alive and well and they are here to stay in the Diocese of Scranton."
