i want to be an infant school teach but not sure on what qualifications you need, any help?
you will probably need a masters in ed., if you already have bachelors than you'll need to research universities that offer good alternative routines to become a teacher. also, check your state's department of education website.
Good luck!

Hey,
I'm 14 and planning my work experience. I definitely want to do it in a nursery, an infant school or possibly a junior school, as all I want to do with my life is something to do with children. I was just wondering, really, if anyone has done work experience in a nursery/school and would tell me how it went, give me some tips etc?
Thanks a lot x
I did mine a month ago.
Tip 1: BE VERY VERY PATIENT INDEED!
Tip 2: Do muck about with paints
Tip 3: Do say NO when it needs to be said
Tip 4: Be ridiculously kind
Tip 5: Don't have favourites
Tip 6: Do be prepared to do a lot of painting, putting stuff up on walls and things
Tip 7: Avoid if there is a trip outside with the kids. The kids treat you like a coat hanger.
Tip 8: If a child comes to you saying they 'injured' themselves. Send them to the office and say that there is nothing YOU can do about it.
Tip 9: Enjoy, and be smiley, even when the other colleague teachers never socialise with you. Be prepared to each lunch alone unless you want to be with the kids.
Tip 10: Don't do it and then say it sucked.
As you can notice from the above, my work experience sucked but hey, I do miss the kids!
PS. Last day is going to be sad...be prepared!

If i wanted to teach at an infant school - ie. pupils under 12 years, then what qualifications would I need ?
whirredup - schools that teach youngsters are often referred to as infant schools - search the web! - It has nothing to do with English!
In the UK, from what i have read, Infant schools appear to teach from 4 to 7 years - it is this age that i an interested in teaching. - just to clear up any confusion!
BEB - thank you for your answer, I am right in thinking then that with a degree and the PGCE I could teach infants ? (I originally mentioned the under 12 years as i thought there was a difference in qualifications required in primary/secondary schools)
There's two routes. You can either do a B Ed degree or, if you have a degree already, do the PGCE (1 year long).
The days of being able to enter the profession without a degree are gone - although, frankly, why on earth one needs to have studied Beowulf to teach kids to read is beyond me.
Supplementary - Yep although you may be well advised to check on the current level of demand for teachers in that age group - a couple of years ago alot of people were coming out of training only to find it difficult to find jobs.
We have been in the area for over a year, and we are wondering if there is a waiting list for infant schools or a set procedure to follow?
Speak to your health visitor who will have a list of local schools and childrens groups. Go and have a look around a few schools (you should be able to just turn up as any decent school will have nothing to hide), watch the children and teachers interact. Ask a few parents in the area what their experiences are and make your decision. Then put your name on the waiting list at the school.
Good Luck! Remember to take your child with you to look at the school after all they will be going there.

More Primary School places to be created (From Ealing Times)
THREE Ealing primary schools are set to permanently expand to take more pupils following a decision by Ealing Council’s cabinet.
The three schools are Ravenor Primary School, Greenford, St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, Ealing, and Christ Church Junior School and St Saviour’s CE Infant School, Ealing.
Christ Church Junior School and St Saviour’s CE Infant School will also merge to become a new primary school.
High birth rates and the popularity of the borough’s schools mean that Ealing is facing a shortfall in primary school places. Since 2008, 1890 new permanent places have been created, but more are needed in order to meet future demand.
From September 2012, both Ravenor Primary School and St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School will increase their reception year intake from 60 to 90 pupils.
Christ Church Church of England Junior School and St Saviours Church of England Infant School will merge to create a new primary school in September 2011 and will expand the annual intake from 90 pupils to 120 pupils from September 2012.
