How much does it cost to go to an italian language school in Italy?

Is the best way to learn Italian in class or through a book and audio casette course? I have heard that group classes are a waste of time and money, but I don't know what to believe. Anyway, how much italian can the average person learn in 2 months of a specialized language school, and how much italian can one learn with 2 years of college level Italian?

if you go to the Università per stranieri di Perugia it costs 750€ for 3 months.. i think it's a good price..

which Italian language school should I choose in florence? being able to miss class a lot..?

im planning to learn italian as soon as i graduate from high school. during this 5 months i will be learning the language but also traveling during long periods....I really want to learn italian but dont want to loose money so i want to choose a cheap institute where i will learn italian but will also be able to miss class a lot....which is the best option in florence????

If you don't need a degree but just learning italian, in my opinion the best choice could be asking for private lessons to university students in Florence. The "teacher" is well prepared, cheaper and more flexible than a school.

No offense, but what you're asking for is almost utopic. It's a tad difficult learning the language if you don't attend school, especially if you're a beginner (I'm assuming you are, sorry if you're not). That being said, Florence, my friend, is a very expensive place. I would suggest you enroll in the Perugia University for Foreigners (Universita per Stranieri di Perugia), since Perugia is little over an hour away from Florence by train, it's considerably cheaper with respect to both classes and overall living expenses, it's the party capital of Italy, and the university plans travel options in the weekends for its students, at a very reasonable price (that is, much cheaper than if you were to make the arrangements by yourself). Hope this helps .

As far as I know one of the best schools for Italian language is the "Leonardo da Vinci school" in Florence. They've other branches in Milan,Rome and Siena but I would go with Florence. Here's the website with all info including prices.

Starting dates of the courses as well as type of the courses are better detailed in the link's page.
To make you a example a General Standard Italian Language Course of 2 weeks with minimum 12 students (4 lessons x 5 days x 2 weeks = 40 lessons) will cost you 300 € = abt. 400 US$

In addition to learning a lot of Italian, this course offers the opportunity to get involved in a new activity and the ability to discover new emotions.

Field trips are part of the course: we visit the famous scenes of the Pergola Theatre, where an experienced guide shows us the parts of the theatre and its history, tells how the sounds were made during a theatrical performance before the advent of electronics showing old machines, still functioning, stored inside the theatre etc.

Studying in Florence is certainly an unforgettable experience not only made of books, but also of images, sounds, gestures, new experiences …
