What are the best things to have on a law school resume?

I am planning on going to a top law school when I finish college and was wondering what should be on my resume. Here are the things I currently have (not many things but some great ones).

-3.83 GPA
-170 LSAT score
- I own a business and make 40k a year from it

I'm going to be a sophmore and am 19. I am currently attending a top 25 business school and am graduating in marketing or administration.

Law schools are looking for:

1. Besides top grades, are you involved in any honor societies?
2. What volunteer groups are in you involved in?
3. Are you a minority, since most academic scholarships are heavily weighted towards affirmative action?
4. Even though you own a $40K a year business, who does the formal written communication with customers, vendors?
5. Do you have a relative who is an alumni of the prospective law school?

Good luck!

what should I put in my objective for law school resume?

I am applying to law school and having a hard time finding law school resume examples. Career Services is telling me to put an objective, but when I look at some examples they are not using one. What should I do and how should I word it?

As a resume service I just completed a resume for an application into law school.
I did not use an objective due to the fact the immediate objective is to enter law school.
I did review the applicants "personal statement" and believe this weights heavily along the achievements noted on the resume.
Highlighting GPA and LSAT.

What kind of info do you put on a Law School resume?

I am putting together my resume for law school, and I am having some problems. I have only really worked at McDonalds and Subway when I was in college, and I am not sure if I should include that in my resume or not. I have a very strong volunteer history, and I did tons of activities in college that I feel make me look strong. My work history is certainly lacking. Can someone help me?!?!

I am an attorney (currently classified as inactive as I am pursuing other matters).

Include all your work and volunteer experience. It will show that you have the self-discipline to work at a job even if it is routine. This history will be in your favor.

Likewise, list all your college activities. Law schools like well-rounded people.

Actually the major factors in your admission decision will be your college grades and your LSAT scores.

Feel free to email me if you have further questions.

Would founding and being president of the debate society at my college look good on a law school resume?

I noticed we don't have one and I was wondering how law schools respond to a debate society

Any time you could spend on founding and nurturing this debate society can be better spent studying and upping the GPA.

GPA and LSAT are the only things, I repeat, ONLY THINGS that matter to law schools.

What type of undergraduate work experience helps boost your resume for law school?

What type of part time jobs would you recommend for a college student planning on going to law school? What type of work experience do law schools prefer? What are some part time jobs I could work while going to school that would make my resume stand out?
My major is English.

Law school admissions are primarily based upon GPA and LSAT score so getting a job for the sake of boosting your resume is not only a waste of time but can also potentially sabotage your GPA or LSAT score (less time to study).

Even people who were undergraduate student association presidents or held internships at law firms and city council offices had admissions results that were based purely on LSAT and GPA.

  • Q&A With Resume Goddess, Who Put Her Law Degree For Sale On eBay

At the beginning of January, a Chicago-based eBay seller going by the name of Resume Goddess – she asked us not to publisher her real name – put her law degree, from John Marshall Law School, up for auction for $200,000. (eBay quickly took down the listing, and warned Resume Goddess not to put up her law degree listing again.)

Why’d she do it? Resume Goddess owes about $200K for her degree, and makes just under $30K a year.  Her student loan payments “would be about $2K per month,” she recently told OOTS News.

OOTS NEWS: So eBay deleted your ad?

RG: Right. And I had 2100 people who had looked at it.

OOTS NEWS: Anybody bid on it yet?

RG: No but I had several questions, mostly from attorneys.

OOTS NEWS: I guess first of all, what’s your story? You went to law school. What did you go to law school for? Did you know what kind of law you wanted to practice?

RG: I wanted to be a public defender.
