Can I be disallowed to graduate by owing money to another school?

I owe another school I $7000 for a semester gone very very wrong. I am currently going to another school, and am set to graduate (hopefully) next December. I have been getting phone calls from bill collectors about the above-mentioned debt, and am being helped negotiate with the schools about getting the debt cleared. My question: Can owing one school money prevent me from graduating from my current school?

Most schools will not issue official transcripts if the student owes them money, so if you are depending on academic credits from the first school to be transferred to the school from which you will graduate, they most very likely will not transfer until the debt has been cleared.

Can I still get financial aid even though I owe money to another school and that I failed a semester?

I am trying to go to this truck driving school but i owe a school money from 3 years ago. I only went for one semester and I failed that semester. Can I still get financial aid even with these circumstances?

Truck driving school is not a long enough program for you to get federal aid like the Pell grant and federal loans. No, you can't get fin aid, even if you didn't owe another school.

How do you live off school money?

I would like to go to school but I need my own place. I am sleeping on my mom's floor and have lived with bed bugs for a year. I cannot stand it anymore. I need a another job. I know there is work study and you get money back from school if you are on financial aid but other than that I am not sure if that would help me at all.

You would have to get student loans. You can include living expenses in that. When my son was in law school, he had loans not just for tuition but for his rent, food, etc.
Work study doesn't usually amount to much, and it is considered financial aid. You are given a limit of how much you can earn, and sometimes it is difficult to get work study jobs. Some colleges assign you to something; others make you find jobs on your own. (I used to be a college library director; they'd only let me hire two or three work study students, and they were limited to earning $1500/semester each.)

If I owe a school money in Maryland, can they take it out my Connecticut income tax refund?

I went to school in Maryland for a semester and at the end of the semester they said I didn't owe them any money. So then the following spring semester I never registered and withdrew from the school and now they are saying I still owe them money from that semester even though I never went to it. Can they take my income tax refund next year if I live in Connecticut?

Yep they sure can!

  • School money tighter – Evansville Courier & Press - eMathematic.com

Money is getting even tighter for the Henderson County school district, it was reported at Monday’s monthly Board of Education meeting.

The state pays school districts a certain dollar amount per student based on the district’s average daily attendance.

Now, it turns out that Kentucky has a $ 49 million shortfall of the money that would be given to school districts per child.

While final numbers won’t be known until March 1, it looks like the Henderson County school district will not receive $ 531,141 from the state in the 2011 fiscal year.

This anticipated cut is in addition to other cuts that are already in place and other cuts that will be put in place having to do with textbooks, professional development and money coming from stimulus funds.

In all, according to local school finance director Walt Spencer, the “subtotal bad news” is $ 6,938,856.

“(State officials) also commented that Fiscal Year 2012 looks like it will be worse than the current year,” he added. “The devil is in the details.”
