Reading List for a Student studying Primary School Teaching?

Hello!
I will soon be starting my course studying primary school teaching with Design technology and german subject specialisms. I would really love some suggestions of books to read. I would like some which outline each subject and the sorts of things i will have to teach, hopefully without them being too boring!
Really look forward to your responses, Thank you!

Haven't your course tutors sent you a reading list? I'm due to start my Secondary teaching course and we got a list of books to read.

Try looking on amazon and I'm sure you'll find plenty of books for teaching primary, class behaviour, teaching D&T and German.

Teaching @ Primary School [part 1 of 3]

Teaching @ Primary School [part 1 of 3]

Can I get a degree in French and Spanish studies and THEN go to do a primary school teaching course?

In the United Kingdom.

Hi, I am planning to do French and Spanish degree which lasts for 3/4 years at Liverpool university. But I would like a career in primary school teaching.

Is it possible to do my French and Spanish degree first and then go on to do a course to train to become a primary school teacher?

If not, why not?

Thanks.

Yes and it would virtually guarantee you a job as primary schools are now teaching languages.

You would need to complete your degree, have GCSE maths, English and science and then take a PGCE course to qualify you as a teacher.

What University Is A Good One To Go To For Primary School Teaching?

I'm currently in 6th form, and im intrested in going into Primary School Teaching - What universities in England are good for this? Thanks :)

i'm in the U.S. - but I would imagine that there are review and such of your schools online.

On a side note... i don't know about England... but teachers in the U.S. are not well-paid, and almost no one wants to be a teacher. So, make sure you do the research.

Are there jobs in primary school teaching? What is the job situation for NQT`s?

I`m seriously considering primary school teaching as a career, but will there be any vacancies for NQT`s in 3-4 years. I`ve heard second hand info that there are NQT`s that can`t get jobs within their first year due to there being a lack of vacancies.
Is there anyone out there who has first-hand knowledge of this situation?

I agree with what the others say, it has a lot to do with where you plan to work. When you apply for an NQT position you have to be flexible where travel is concerned. I live in Scotland and there are quite a few unemployed NQT's. However if you get a really good qualification you have a better chance.

One problem is how many schools are the government planning to shut down in your area? If any!

and how badly was your local council hit in the recession? Are they cost cutting?

In my school 3 teachers left at the end of term however only one teacher has been employed to replace them.

What I would suggest is ask your local job-centre, local primary school and also local council for there opinions and keep and eye out on your local council vacancy website and jobs in teaching websites to see how many jobs are coming up in your area just now - the number won't change much in 3 - 4 years

In Scotland the government believes that only around 30% of NQT's find full time permanent work in schools and our statistics are supposed to be even if not better than England's.

How do I obtain a primary school teaching position in Ireland. I live in the U.S. and have a teaching degree.?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with minors in English, science and mathematics. In the U.S. I am qualified to teach K-8 grades. I am having a really hard time finding quality information about getting a primary teaching job in the Republic of Ireland. Can anyone direct me to a place that is hiring people from overseas, a quality recruiting company, or even some better information? Thank you!

It is probably best to contact the Department of Education in any country where you'd like to teach.

They will be able to tell you what qualifications they need.

They will also be able to tell you whether they have shortages of teachers in the subjects/age range you want to teach.

Naturally any suitably qualified EU candidates will be able to work in Ireland as a right. From the US you will need a work permit and will probably need to demonstrate that there is no one in Ireland that could do the job.
