Can i send my son to a roman catholic school if we are not catholics?

My three year old will be starting school next year and would like him to go to a certain school.
It happens to be a catholic school but we are not catholics.
It is a five min walk from our house and all others are at least thirty mins some much more.
Is it possible to get a place?
Thanks.

Yes.
But nowdays you must pay for it. In the past it was free.
Are there no other private schools close by?
No offense to Catholics, but:

I would not send my child to a catholic school unless the only other choice was public school.

If you are not a Catholic- your child will be, if he attends a Catholic school. If this will be a problem for you- then you should consider the schools farther away. If being a Catholic is not a problem for you- then go for it. They do have very good schools. The "only downside" to a Catholic school is Catholic indoctrination.

In the past, this was the Catholic church's greatest form of evangelism. To provide good free private education. The payoff came years later as many of the non-Catholic children converted to Catholicism. It worked good, but was expensive. Now they charge-but it still works.

Other Christian Schools may not indoctrinate at all towards any particular denomination. The Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopal schools I have seen are non-denominational in their teaching. They provide good academics in a basic Christian atmosphere.

I would think about it. The easiest way is not always the best. However- Catholics schools are excellent academically.

Publically funded Roman Catholic school (elementary and high school) in Ontario. Anywhere else?

Where do you live that has state-funded, public Roman Catholic education (or other religious education)? It exists in Ontario, Canada, under the "Separate School Board" which I think is a great thing. All other religions are grouped under the "Public" school board, and are publically funded as well. There are two school boards in Ontario, therefore.

Where else? Curious, thanks!

Practically every Catholic school in Canada is funded by the state. Unfortunately, this puts requirements on what they teach (health class, etc...)

In the US, Catholic schools are generally privately funded, which means they tend to be more faithful. Catholic schools vary as far as how "Catholic" they are. It depends mostly on what the board decides.

should i go to a roman catholic school if i'm lesbian?

Since everyone is expected to be celebate, what difference would it make?

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

Here is the text of the document, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986): http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df 86ho.htm

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2357-2359: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3s ect2chpt2art6.htm#2357

Will a Working at a Crisis Pregnancy Center Look Favorable to a Roman Catholic Law School?

I am pro-life and I have recently joined Students for Life and Feminists for Life at my college. I am also going to volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center.

I was hesitant to put this on my applications to secular law schools since I am assuming many of the adcoms will be extremely liberal and not like that I am pro life....

But then I found this really cool Roman Catholic school that I want to attend.

Will they like the pro-life stuff?

Make an application and find out... Then let us all know.

And, good luck.

Why do Roman catholic schools generally perform better than C of E school?

C of E schools ...

They don't perform better than C of E schools.

The article compares Catholic schools with state schools. There is a difference. Only 6% of state schools are C of E schools.

C of E schools have similar admission policies to Catholic schools. This means that the best pupils are chosen for admission.
Imagine if your school only took on the brighter kids. Five years on, its obvious that the exam results will be better.

Church schools will appear to perform better than state schools because they take the bright kids, not because they are better educators. The kids who struggle have no choice but to attend the state schools, This has a detrimental effect on the exam results of the state schools. The overall performance in state schools might actually be better than the church schools.

Its an old student adage that says "measuring intelligence by exam results is like measuring digestion by turd length"

  • Nelson's View: Culture Matters (14)

Bobby Sands is certainly set up as a role model for the children and an Irish language biography of the IRA hunger-striker was specially prepared for children by Denis O'Hearn of Queen's University and another former hunger-striker, Laurence McKeown,  Copies of the book were officially presented to Bunscoil an Iuir, an Irish medium school in Newry, by Sinn Fein MP Conor Murphy. Roman Catholic maintained schools also provide an Irish cultural dimension for children through the teaching of the Irish language and Irish cultural activities, such as Gaelic sports, Irish dancing and Irish traditional music. This was noted by Dr Jude Collins, who was the senior lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Ulster: Catholic education supports a sense of Irish identity. The schools don’t talk a lot about this in their official curriculum, but it’s part of what they do. Children attending Catholic schools are helped to see that … Irish...
