i am applying to the salter school and i wanted to figure out how long the course is and if they have the same holiday vacations as a regular college.

I'm trying to get into medical assisting, and I wanted to make sure this school was accredited. I went to AlliedHealth.com and they actually recommended my exact school (The Salter School in Fall River, MA) but when I go to their website they say "Accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools". They said that their job placement rate was 78%, that the credit was mostly transferable, it has an externship, etc.

I just want to make sure that I can get certified after I graduate, and I also don't want to waste my money. It IS a 9-month $10,000 career college, but if it was recommended by AlliedHealth, wouldn't it be legit?

A medical assistant is a person who deals with the clerical aspect and the clinical aspect of healthcare... she can be an assistant to a LPN, RN, or a physician and do more simple things like taking vitals or blood... thanks for the advice, I'll be calling Monday!

If you have to have a state license or certificate to practice then check with your states medical licensure board on line or call and ask. If you have a counselor at the school, then ask them. They should know. What is a medical assistant? I am an old nurse working in an ever changing medical scene so I am probably behind on a lot of things.

I am looking to go to school for Medical Coding and Billing. The schools that offer the program in RI are Salter School, Sanford-Brown and Lincoln Tech. How do I know if these schools are legit? If they will REALLY get me a job? Please help!

FIRST, go to your local community college and see what programs they offer. See who recruits from the community college for what sorts of work.

Billing & coding has become heavily advertised, now the field is glutted just as Obummercare is destroying medical practices. Half the private medical offices, doctors offices, private clinics in the US have been sold or put up for sale or slated to close since February. Definitely a declining market for billing & coding. Also, it is routine clerical work with no real future, no advancement possibilities, and everything is changing under Obummercare, so whatever you learn will likely be obsolete within a few years, and you will need to retrain all over again.

1. Billing & coding is a dead end.
2. Private schools for this sort of thing are overpriced.
3. See what else is available from your community college.
4. Always check the schools Placement Office to see who recruits there for what.
