I want to work with teens but I don't want to be a teacher. I've always been interested in counseling and pyschology. What duties does a school counselor have to perform?
Requirements vary by state. Some states require B.A. in psychology or counseling, some require a Master's. Unfortunately, in my state of PA, many school counselors are burdened with administrative duties (organizing achievement tests, handling transcripts, etc.) to the point where they rarely get one on one time with students. It has led many to pursue mental health counseling. Most students with mental/behavioral issues are now being seen by providers outside of school (at least in PA.)

I'm really unsure of a career right now, I'm about to graduate with a degree in psychology and don't know where to take it afterward. I was thinking about being a school guidance counselor (school psychologist) but am unsure of the salary. Is anyone out there who can help me?
Does it depend on the district of the school?
If I have a master will I make more?
If I have a master how much more will I make?
If I have ph.d will I make more?
I want to go to graduate school but I'm scared to take out loans for schools and make very little money.
Can anyone who really knows the field PLEASE HELP.
On average a counselor can make from 38,000 to 60,000

The school psychologist and guidance counselor are two separate jobs albeit they're both working at schools with students. Here is a link that provides information about the difference - National Association of School Psychologists: http://www.nasponline.org/about_sp/caree rfaq.aspx#sp_counselor There are more questions about school psychology with responses in the FAQ (frequently asked questions) section.
Please don't consider the salary as much as the job tasks themselves as to which field that one pursues :) A person tends to work at the same (or in the same field) job for many years to come and hopefully feel content about his or her career choice. Farrah Gray, young male multimillionaire and author of "Reallionaire" suggests asking oneself a question similar to what I'd 'paraphrased', "What would I do for years and years to come and not have to get paid?"
The guidance counselor usually has a teaching degree (bachelor's in education), has gotten a few years classroom teaching experience and then may continue to graduate school for a master's degree (though depending on the state's requirements) in order to Possibly get a job as a school counselor. The school psychologist may need a doctorate to perhaps get a job as a school psychologist. Competition is keen for work as a school counselor and/or school psychologist. It seems as though those people tend to stay at their jobs ;)

Masters in Counseling Career Salaries
Master of Counseling Career Salaries
Professional counselors work in schools, social service agencies, mental health programs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers and in private practice. Salaries range across the board, from the modest pay scales for many social work positions to the lucrative careers that private marriage and family therapy practitioners have built. Private practice is not always the road to a healthy income but under the right circumstances there is more room for growth in private practice than there is working in a salaried position. Counselors holding a master’s degree, however, are more likely to be eligible for management positions, for administrative roles, and for the senior jobs that get involved in policy development in the public sector. Our list of counseling career salaries is only a brief look at salary ranges as provide by either the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics or Payscale.com, both of which provide national averages that can vary significantly based on job location and seniority.
