Every school choice program that they have experimented with works.
Why do they still oppose reform.
This is one area where I do agree with a certain level of union busting and I'm a centrist Democrat and member of a union. In most unions you produce at a high level or you are gone and I was never a tenured carpenter- too many others are itching to join. I agree with pay for performance as this is one job where a high level of quality and competition is sadly lacking. I saw so many lazy teachers working along side great ones when I was growing up- this is no assembly line or steel mill and should never be treated as such. On the other hand Republican funding for schools may even be more detrimental, I don't know.

I need to know this for a story I'm writing in my english class. And how long can you stay in juvenile hall and what sort of crime do you commit to get sent to reform school?
I know it depends on where you are so I'll let you know I'm writing about california. If you could give me some examples of crimes that would get a minor sent to reform school and juvenile hall and how long they would have to stay at both of them that would be great.
Thank you.
No. A reform school allows a youth to remain at home, unlike a youth who is in a juvenile detention (youth detention center). The preferred option is to have a youth placed in a reform school but when there is no improvement the last resort would be juvenile hall. I couldn’t find specific cases of when youths have been sent to reform school in California. I did, however, find specific cases in other states. How long a youth can stay in juvenile hall depends on the crime the youth has committed. I recommend looking for the California bylaws regarding reform school in the library. Good Luck on your story. Let me know if you need more help.

I am writing a book and the main characters are really ruff, enough to get sent to a reform school. Now what names do you think would be good for a reform school name?
JHS 666 - if it is set in New York City.
If it is a Parochial School, Call it ---- Saint Beezlebub's School for Wayward Youth and have the superintendent named Sister Iron Fist.
If it is for girls only, call it -- The Crawford Academy for Disobedient and Promiscuous Girls.
have a massive project due on march 22 in which I am creating a national school reform....
I've gone waist deep into it and I would like to know some outside opinions on what they would do, regarding absolutely anything in the public school system, such as:
diversity
taxes
busing
NCLB
homeschooling
virtual academies
vocational schools
elective emphasis
after school programs
segregation
merit consideration
a nationalized grading system
a nationalized curriculum
etc....
I'd like to hear what you have to say!
Glad to see that you guys have an opinion...keep posting!
mamabear...I am interested in what you're saying. Can you describe the rewards system a bit more to me?
Thanks

The things I listed above are simply ideas for topics in the discussion, they are not necessarily things that I endorse.
But thanks for the opinon
Pfo: I actually have a lot of ideas regarding what you're saying. See my earlier question: http://tinyurl.com/2c5cre
sandy: please explain your oppinion more
Really, I'd liek as much insight as physically possible

I went to school in New York state, where they typically have good schools. One reason why is the Regent's exam, a test given in every subject in high school on state standardized subjects. Those who do not pass the test, do not pass the class. This system encouraged standardized learning and prevented students from passing if they did not know enough to at least get a C.
Surely, this would be a good idea for national curricula.
Also, getting rid of students that serve as a distraction is a must. While they need an education, if they are reluctant to take advantage of it they should not be allowed to distract someone else that does.
I watched this movie a long time ago with a friend on an HBO or Showtime type channel. It was super cheesy and during the end of the movie the girls fight a giant tentacle thing...
One girl is forced to go there in the beginning and her sister is trying her best to get in and save her with the help of a cop. The father of this religious reform school is perverted and uses a paddle on one of the girls as punishment.
Any ideas? Thanks!
The Halfway House (2004)
starring Mary Woronov, Janet Tracy Keijser, Shawn Savage, Stephanie Leighs, Athena Demos, Monica Shere
IMDb synopsis:
Young girls are disappearing in and around the Mary Magdalen Halfway House for Troubled Girls. Desperate to find out what became of her sister, Larissa Morgan goes undercover to infiltrate the Catholic-run institution. Once inside, she encounters Father Fogerty, a priest with a passion for punishment; Sister Cecelia, a nun with a dark past plotting an even blacker future; tough Latino Angelina and her home girls and a sinister handyman named Lutkus. It's not long before she's caught up in a twisted web of sadism, violence, and wanton lust before finally learning the ultimate secret of the Halfway House.
IMDb review excerpt: **SPOILER**
Sister Cecelia (Woronov) is a bit looney, and the creepy handyman is her accomplice in SOMETHING that goes on in the basement, involving a one-eyed, tentacled monster from beyond. Of course, it all has something to do with a stolen copy of "The Necronomicon" that disappeared from Miskatonic University a few years ago.
TRIVIA:
Miskatonic University is mentioned by Officer Sheen to Larissa, who asks, "Where have I heard that before?" This is a reference to H.P. Lovecraft, who used this fictitious University in some of his stories. "The Necronomicon" is a book created by Lovecraft for his Cthulhu Mythos.

Battle for school reform in D.C. gets new general | Harry Jaffe ...
Rhee very deliberately left her team in place when she resigned last year after Fenty lost re-election. Henderson, her comrade in arms in the teacher reform movement, had been her second in command; she could soften Rhee's blows. Three top Rhee lieutenants -- Lisa Ruda, Anthony Tata and Jason Kamras -- have stayed and form Henderson's top leadership team. Kaya Henderson has no interest in showing up on the cover of Time or Newsweek. But she does want the freedom to attack some basic problems. For instance, D.C. still has no common curriculum. That's right; doesn't exist. She might have to close more schools. She still has to fight a rear guard action against the union. She will have to fire teachers, jettison principals, displease parents. Reader Comments
