you enter elementary school at age 6. grade1 to 6 there.
junior high school at age 12. grade 1 to 3.
high school at age 15. grade 1 to 3.
you have to take exams to enter every high school, private elementary schools or private junior high schools.
every school starts in April and ends in March in a year.
satrts around 8:30 and ends around 4 in a day.
July 20th to the end of August is summer holiday, Christmas to around January 7th winter holiday, March 20th to April 7th spring holiday. but these are not always the case. schools in northern cities have shorter summer vacation and longer winter vacation.

I heard that the American school system prepared students for work in factories,is this true?
Not at all! We don't encourage anyone to work in a factory...it is where you wind up working if you did not go to college, or live some place where there are no better jobs. School teaches academics, music, and p.e. only.

Our school system says they cannot provide anyone to come to the home to tutor the child. The family is willing to pay anyone either from school or just a private tutor if one can be found.
Most of it depends on why the student is homebound. If the student is homebound for a legitimate reason, the school is required to provide a suitable home program for them. If they will not, and you have a state acceptable medical person who says that the student is unable to attend, you can contact the Office of Civil Rights and they will help you advocate for the proper services.
I've been reading books and fanfiction which use the American school system and words keep cropping up such as freshman and sophomore, junior and senior. What is this and what ages are they? Also, what is the UK year equivalent to US grades?

15-16 Tenth Grade
16-17 eleventh grade
17-18 twelth grade
This is when one normally graduates from high school. Then can choose to go to college, trade school, or work force.

Opinion: fix our school system and stop uni-bashing
As a former constituent and activist in Bermondsey and Old Southwark I greatly enjoyed campaigning on behalf of Simon Hughes and have a lot of respect for his approach to policy and the hard work he puts in, especially meeting face to face with local voters and community groups. I was shocked, however, to read quotes from Simon on the front page of Saturday’s Guardian calling on universities to ‘cut intake’ from independent schools in order to match nationally ‘representative’ proportions: 7.2% was his quoted figure for the proportion of students we ought to aim at coming from an independent school background. Not only is this quota-matching idealism an illiberal approach that has seen plenty of criticism here on LDV over the years, it ignores the real barriers to academic performance (and, indeed, the element of student choice) that lead to ‘unrepresentative’ ratios in our elite institutions and seeks to lay all the blame at the door of the (already battle-scarred) admissions office.
