School Work

any ideas how i can try to focus more in school work. im not a verry good writer and it takes me about a day to get a 3 page essay done. (collage student)
any tips on writing essay?

Start with an outline of your essay.

Then go back and add some details in the outline. Take a break for about 1 hour - even if you work on something else.

Come back and read the outline again. Add a few more details.

Take a break.

Take the outline with you. If you are someplace waiting for a few minutes, take the outline out and see what else you could/should add.


As you add your details, your outline will gradually start to become your essay. And (from personal experience), when you write something - go away - and then come back to it - you will see items where you left things out - or where items should be added.

The old saying, practice makes perfect. Is true.

I always go over the material I write, at least 3 times. And I have written studies/strategic plans for state agencies.

If you do not have a spell checker/grammar checker - get one. The average person's reading comprehension level is the 9th grade. And when running your essay thru this software, it will help by pointing out when you are using a PASSIVE voice and an ACTIVE voice. PASSIVE voice is not convincing to people.

I tend to get too wordy. But Malcom Forbes (Billionaire owner of Forbes magazines) recommended "Keep it brief". Also,when President Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address he was not the headline speaker. Some Congressman was. The Congressman spoke for hours. Lincoln's speech has 80 words - and over 100 years later - we all have heard of Lincoln's speech. But the comments by the Congressman who spoke for so long has been forgotten.

What are pros/cons on Censorship?

The term "censorship" comes from The Latin, censere "to give as one's opinion, to assess". It is not always appropriate to give one's opinion, or assess aloud. Sometimes we must speak up, to benefit all mankind. Sometimes we must be silent to benefit all mankind.

I'm going to Ohdela right now and I hate it they assign so much school work and don't even explain in in class at all and it's really hard to do it's a pain. I'm in 9th grade right now and I asked my mom if I could switch schools before the 2nd semester starts and I want to know if connections academy is a good school with understandable school work.

why dont you ask your teachers to explain, this is common problem of every one so tell your parents to speak to Principal. Changing school is not the solution change the faulty system if you can Thats the quality of leader, be leader. Best wishes. Academic Director

I'm trying to work out my schedule. I'm going to graduate school working on an MA in history. I'm taking 9 hours, this will be hard enough as it is. I got offered a job overnight for 2 days a week = 16 hrs. This is being a computer lab monitor, so it's job I would be able to study at. I already have 2 other jobs, as a tutor I get 8 hours a week, and I do substitute teaching which brings me about 24 hours a week.

Should I take the night job for 16 hours? I would be able to study at it, but I'm worried that this will be too much for me to handle at once, and maybe I should take it easier. Can you do graduate school and work 48 hours a week?

Entering graduate school you should be well aware of how to manage your time by now..

Why not start school, see how much time is needed, then worry about the job after you have a feel for things?
