Can a secondary teacher do supply in primary school?

If one trains as a secondary school teacher and, at some point, does supply teaching, can they be a supply in primary school or in secondary only?

It depends on your state and country. Ask the Department of Education in your area. I am a secondary school teacher and have done some work in a primary school in Australia. It is not so easy. Being the teacher of a primary class requires different skills. For example, student management is very different; you have your own class for most of the day. However, I survived and learnt a lot that helped me with my secondary teaching.

High School Teacher Career Information : How to Become a High School Teacher

There are many ways to become a high school teacher, but one unique way is through a program called Teach For America, which places people in ...

Which would you prefer, being a secondary school teacher or a Primary school teacher?

I would love to go into teaching but am unsure of whether to be a secondary school teacher or a primary school teacher.
Please could you give me advantages and disadvantages of each one :)

Thanks.

I definitely prefer the younger children. When you teach in kindergarten you have a lot of freedom in choosing activities for teaching. You can be very creative. You have to meet the performance standards for that level, but there are so many different ways to do that. You can choose themes and design activities in every subject around that theme. I loved making learning centers for the students to help them learn. I used art, music, puppetry and storytelling as a way to teach. The students were very enthusiastic about learning, because they got to experience what they were learning.

Another great thing about the young children is that they come to school eager to learn for the most part and they love you as their teacher. They are easy to manage because they want to please. I used very positive methods of reinforcement, although I also used time out, removal of privileges etc if they misbehaved. I liked using natural consequences and logical consequences. A natural consequence would be that if you spilled your juice, you ddn't get any more. A logical consequence is that if you played around and made a mess, you had to clean it up. Both of these work well.

Half the class had a job every day. They liked doing real "work". That keeps students busy and focused and doesn't allow time for getting into trouble. There are many advantages to teaching the primary students. I would recommend that level to anyone, and I have taught at every level including grad school at a major university.

Teacher aide work prior to secondary school teaching?

Hey, I wish to become a secondary school teacher though I was wondering whether it is wise to go to Tafe and gain a certificate 3 in Education Support. It would enable me to be a teacher aide before I even leave high school but would I be better off just going to University after year 12?

it would be good to be a teacher's aide while your in school that way you will have tons of experience and easily get a job when you get out of college. if you can't do both for some reason . just get your degree in education..first.. what is tafe..what state is this the abbreviations for certificates are different in each state so don't use them thanks

How to become a secondary school teacher in the UK?

I have a PhD in physics but would like to become a secondary school science teacher. I would rather not do the year long PGCE but somebody told me i had to do this as i already have a degree? Is there not a shorter teaching course available?

Thanks
Of course i appreciate that by having a PhD i still have alot to learn but i was wondering if i could do a Cert ed of something?

You can do a PGCE or you can apply for a GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme) placement. The GTP allows you to learn on the job but the school have to take some responsibility to train you.

You can directly apply for teaching jobs as an unqualified teacher by expressing an interest in the GTP.

What A levels should i take to be a secondary school teacher ?

i want to teach secondary school students but do not know what a levels to take. I think i want to teach science, biology psychically and was thinking of taking biology phycology and sociology with 1 other a level but im not sure which one. Maybe maths. What do i need to be a secondary school teacher ?
i meant biology specifically btw. and its not because biology is the easiest as its not, chemistry is, but because i enjoy it more than the others its more fasinating how the body works and how to treat diseases and stuff.

You should teach what you feel you will enjoy more, however there does seem to be a lot of biology teachers around (and out of a job) compared to chemistry and physics teachers. I would suggest instead of sociology or psychology (unless its something you're very interested in, and want to study further as the A level just skims the top) I would drop that and do chemistry or physics as well. That way, even if you do choose to teach biology, you can teach chemistry/physics too. I know my school did that with a few teachers because they're very hard pushed to find them.
