First of all, ignore the other answerer, because she has no idea what she's talking about- not all of the riders at the Spanish Riding School are men, because dressage is a sport in which men and women participate equally. As to how you get hired and become a rider there, I believe that you actually must live in Austria and go to school there ( they have equestrian schools which offer degrees in Austria and most European countries, unlike in the US) and be an Austrian citizen or national. It also helps to have been or to be a dressage rider or competitor, preferably starting when one is very young. Most of the countries in Europe also offer pony classes in dressage at their shows, but that idea is only just beginning to catch on in the States.
Riders have to go through a formal interview process, and then they spend a lot of time taking lessons before they are allowed to work with or train horses on their own, or ride in the public performances. The Spanish Riding School also has a tour group which goes on the road for months at a time every year, and membership in this is also by audition only.
Does that answer your question??
Spanish Riding School, Vienna Beliebte Annen-Polka (Johann Strauss Sr.) Elisen-Polka, Op. 151 (Johann Strauss Jr.) Seiji Ozawa conductor Vienna ...
Does it open on Monday-Friday?
Do I have to buy the ticket to tour around the school?
What is this program call?
How much does it cost if I want to get a full tour of the school?
When the school open and close for public????
Do I have to book the ticket first?
(Please, help me because I have only one chance to go there.)
Your best bet would be to go to their website: www.srs.at/index.php
They are open daily from 10:00 to 12:00 is the morning exercise and 14:00, 15:00 & 16:00 is the guided tour. Performances are on Saturdays and Sundays. Prices range from €116 per adult to €24 for adults standing. Tickets for performances can be booked online.
Just wondering.
Yes, the first female was just accepted into the School. You can read about at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersp orts/equestrianism/3204205/British-teena ger-is-first-woman-student-at-Spanish-Ri ding-School.html
I remember seeing a performance when I was younger and I would love to learn everything about their training methods and riding styles and I figure the best place for that is there! Does anyone know if there is some kind of selection process and what level of skills you need? if you know anything about it please share what you know!
Thank you
Read this page from their website-
http://www.srs.at/index.php?id=323
Try contacting them to find out more.
Also, I know a few of their riders come to the states each year- a retired dressage judge that I regularly do clinics with takes a few of her students to ride with them when they come each year- so maybe try to do something like that?
Good luck!
What are the best seats to get for the Spanish Riding School performance? I would like a reasonably priced alternative from someone who has attended a show, as best seats start at EUR125. I a not sure if lower priced tickets mean little or no visibility of the show.
Also, what are the chances of finding tickets on the day of the show or is it best to buy online in advance?
Thanks
A cheaper alternative would be the (almost daily) morning exercise with music which is a public training. price is 12 Euros only, no advance booking but tickets available at the same day.
Have a look here:
http://www.srs.at/index.php?id=387
You can also combine it with a guided tour.
Sorry, I don't know about the cheaper seats - some may have limited visibility. In seats like the Parterreloge (ground floor box) rows 2-4 you only have the people in front of you.
Standing places are also cheap and if you are there soon enough you will have the chance of chosing the best place.
I don't think that there will be many tickets available on the same day so advance booking is recommended - just have a look at the timetable there are not that much shows per month.
