How does virtual high school work?

I want to do some kind of educational program besides public school and my nurse mentioned virtual high school. Are all of them the same? How does it work? Do I just get worksheets and have a deadline to turn in the work?

You are assigned a teacher, or teachers for high school, and you take your classes online. This is generally student-led learning, with a teacher available for support. You will generally email or fax your work to your teachers. You will still be doing a lot of the same type of assignments as you are already used to. To be successful, you must be independent and able to keep yourself on track. I only know about the virtual school system we use, and it's one of the K12 academies. To see if there is one available in your state, you can check www.k12.com and look where it says public school options.

Where can I get enrolled into an Oklahoma Virtual High school?

I have tried enrolling in oklahoma virtual high school, but they said they had an over whelming amount of students. Is there a online education progam were i am garunteed to get into?

Can you go to regular school while taking virtual high school?

I am in high school and my GPA is pretty low from my grades last year and I would like to retake a couple classes as well as get ahead in my courses this year. I am going to a regular high school at the moment, and would really like to take Minnesota Virtual High School at the same time.. is it possible? If so, how could I make it happen?

Yes

I'm thinking of taking Virtual High School courses, will this ruin my chances of getting into a good school?

I already finished 9th grade and was basically at the top of my class. School is unchallenging and way too slow for me. So I think Virtual High School will move at a faster pace which is exactly what I want.

But will Ivy League Schools and good colleges frown upon them?

As long as the courses are ,more rigorous than the regular high school, and are accredited and able to be accepted by colleges, you should be OK. BUT, I would contact some colleges directly as you want this type of info from the horses' mouth. This would be a good time to call them, as they are done with recruitment for the year. I would also look for unusual projects (science, study abroad, debate teams or something along those lines) to help you stand out. You might be able to start college courses as a "senior."
